Did you purchase it from a retailer and if so safetied? If so take it back for them to fix...based on the MTO safety requirements anything on the truck has to work or it doesn't pass.
Probably different in Canada , they don't have to safety it.
How do you tell if the truck is doing the regen deal?
Im trying to figure out what it is and what it does and how I know its doing it?
From what Ive read it sounds like the truck runs crappy while its doing the regen thing?
That's real handy isnt it , my trucks going to run like crap and stink every 4-5 hundred miles?
Am I missing something here?
It your truck is running correctly you should not notice that it is in regen. You will see a message displayed briefly.
During regen, one set of injectors does a post injection to send fuel down the exhaust to super heat the dpf. Once that is done the dpf will burn off the soot.
Soot is then turned into ash. Then the cycle is complete.
Issue is the monitoring. We used to be able to monitor in the message center in the 08-10 models till around 2010. Then ford took the continuous message away. So you have to get something aftermarket wise to know for sure.
Excessive regens can be an indication of issues. Knowing that you are in regen and not shutting the truck down with high egt's is also a concern.
Dumping fuel into the crankcase because you shut it down mid cycle is another issue.

So somewhere on the dash there will be a message when it does it?
You can buy a tuner with a "delete tune", which will allow you to rip out the exhaust filters and stuff and run straight exhaust.
I bought the spartan, it works good but the highest tunes shift hard, no big deal.
Your boost will be all over the map during regen, tending to be lower a lot of the time.
These things build lots of boost during regular driving.
Mine was running 10 - 20 PSI just driving around normal, so I just pulled the wire off the turbocharger, and I actually like it quite a bit more.
Only downside to doing that, is that it doesn't build much boost until 1900 RPM or so, but I'd be interested to see what would happen with a 4.88 axle, cause it's probably almost always over 2000 RPM.
Now mine runs about 4 PSI down level highway at 100 km/h, but to climb hills, I have to get it to about 110 - 120 km/h so it builds enough boost. Planning on eventually hooking the turbo back up, but with a shorter connecting rod so it doesn't run as much boost.
It drove me crazy when my truck would regen
1) to me the motor sounds completely different,
2) the mpgs will be cut in half
3) It will not want to make boost
4) There can be a times a fricken lot of white smoke
I just bought a 6.4 and had no idea on the amount of maintenance these trucks require, I just bought an h and s mini max, dpf delete, and egr block off. It Is a huge job and not for anyone that isnt pretty good at wrenching
It wasn't cheap either they cant produce the mini max or any programmer now that comes with the dpf delete tunes so they have doubled in price for the parts and tunner i already have 1900 into the truck
I wish I had researched this lemon before I became stuck with it for the next 4 years.
Its almost sickening, its a nice truck but theres no way I can put up with all the crap that goes with it.

IF you know the truck well you can tell it is in regen by sound, smell and of course watching the mileage drop. It shouldn't perform any different though. Keep the oil changed every 5K, check it about every 1K for growth, change fuel filters every 10K and drain the separator monthly and keep an eye on the coolant level is about all the regular stuff it takes. I'd hate to buy fuel with a truck with a DPF and 4.88 rear though. Getting rid of the DPF fixes a lot of the issues.

X2 it makes me wish I stuck with the v10, I'm willing to give this motor a shot but 1 thing goes wrong and its gonna be in the thousands lol
All I can say is this thing better be gods gift to towing
I got along very well with mine and the emissions stuff. I got a banks 6 gun and the IQ to monitor things and it did well for me. I had 86K miles and something like 2245 hours when I traded mine in.
I have an 08 deleted and tuned and love it!!! I have owned them all 5.9 cummins 3 d-max, and 2 7.3s. "you could not give me a 6.0" and I love my 6.4 the most
get it deleted and tuned and I promise you will love it. STOCK SUCKS!!!
