I have a questing regarding transmission fluid change. I have 149,000 on my V10 X. I just bought it a month ago. I am trying to get a baseline for all the fluids. Is it best to take it to the shop and demand the filter be changed with the exchange of fluids or is just hooking it up to the machine and the old fluid replace with the new okay? I have heard both ways and trying to determine what is best from Excursion owners.
Depends on year model. A trusted lube shop did mine for $99. w/Valvoline Longlife. Very satisfied with results. No mess and watched Aggies beat Alabama while they got their hands dirty
It does not depend on "year model" for a V10 Excursion. All of them had a 4R100 transmission and all had the same filter. It's a lifetime filter. If it catches enough junk to need replacement the transmission is already junk.

Is that as good as Mercon V fluid and are you sure they drained the converter? Did they flush the whole thing? I don't think there are any "trusted shops", I would call and ask if you don't know for sure. They might have been extracting your money while you were watching that football game or whatever it was. Are you sure that wasn't Maxlife?
Do yourself a favor and buy the 22 bottle of Mobil-1 synth atf and do the flush yourself using the great write up that Mark-K did. Very easy to do.
This way you know some 16 yo didn't screw up your trans
There are no 'trusted' shops.
The only trusted shop I believe in has my last name hanging over the porch. And even though I trust the owner, he does make mistakes sometimes (nobody is perfect), but when a mistake is made, I know all I have to do is walk over to the bathroom mirror and yell at the guy.
