I actually got allot of request for this video to be done and I think it turned out well. As it turned out many are unsure of the whole filter setup inside. I go over the fluid and filter change with all my tips along the way. The setup is the same for any 6R60 or 6R80 transmission found in many Ford Vehicles but this one is demonstrated on a F150.

EDIT: Actually, a question. The dipstick on my '11 has an "A" and "B" crosshatch area- any info on this? Assuming its COLD and HOT but???

 

Yes A is cold and B is full hot.

 

Needing to do this on my '13. The book calls for 13.1 quarts capacity. Sounds like from your video I only need maybe 7?

 

I just recently had this service done at the dealer; and they botched it. It was a monstrous ordeal; however they made it right.

Nonetheless, from what I learned, the dealer only put in 7 quarts when they first dropped the pan and changed the fluid. Then, after the torque converter was replaced and they dropped the pan, it took ten quarts. The capacity is for a total of 13.1; when I questioned them they said the remaining 3 quarts was in the transmission itself. Just to please me, they put me underneath one last time before i hit the road to show me the level was full.

This is a great video and in my opinion important to prevent future issues, I guess some people don't agree with filter changes and insist leaving the oem filter in there for the life of the truck. 36 dollars for the filter and 7 quarts of fluid seems like cheap insurance??

 

Agreed! Although due to my dealer's screw-up, I ended up with two weeks of difficulties and a new torque converter; but, with it all behind me, this was still a good decision to have done.

 

Pardon the ignorance but if I don't have that fluid fill fitting that he had in the video, can I fill through the dipstick tube?

Unfortunately you don't have a dipstick tube, the 6R80 has always needed to be filled from underneath.

 

Well, that would be a problem, wouldn't it.

I see that I can buy a small pump to fit on the top of the quart ATF bottles. That will work.
