What kind of problems did you have with your steering box?? Having some problems with my 2003 F-350 steering. Seems to wander all over the road. Local ford dealers can't fix it, does anybody know anything about it or heard anything about steering problems?? leave a reply or email me at rkirk@holtonks.net with any info.
It is a tough row to hoe, but if you go through all the channels you can end up with the "Ford Engineer".
I started with the service manager like you all, but it got nowhere. Until I called Ford, they took all the info, an Area Manager called me and the dealer, so the next time went in the service manager started to argue with me and then said he knew all about this truck becaus I had gone to Ford with it.
I told him he was right and I may have to do it again.
My truck was build late Dec 02, I got it Jan 21, 03, it has 22K miles on it, I have had all the problems you all have had.
The truck has been flased or reprogramed 15 time for what they call it 'updates' but it really lost power when it blew off the turbo hose. An old diesel mechanic that works on IH and the rest said the turbo blew, because that is what happens when the turbo spins at 100,000 RPM and when the hose blows off who knows how fast it will turn so as they say 'There She Blows Capt'n'.
The biggest problem I have is with the services manager, he doesn't want to listen just argue, I asked him why he wants to argue with someone that is trying to help him do his job. His comment was, well I can't repeat it. He just wants to give you lip service, and doing so he tried to call my bluff. He said that I wanted Ford to buy my truck back, I said No, he said Oh you want to use the lemon law, I said No. I just want my truck to run the way I bought it in Jan 03, and not have to worry about pulling out into traffic because it can't get out of it's own way. He said he would get the "Ford Engineer" out but I would have to be available, I told him no problem.
Well I get to bend the "Ford Engineer's" ear on Friday, Aug 15, 03.
1st Ford needs to know about the biggset problem the service manager, then turbo problems, why did they only replace 1 injector, way can't it hold you back on a hill anymore, why blue or black smoke, still rough idle, dies at stops. Well it goes on and on, but I am happy with the truck not the performance, maybe it will heal itself. Let's hope this will be the fix we all need, I will post info Friday night (California time)
2 words. consumer affairs. did my complaint on line. Nothing but butt kissing from then on from ford and my dealer. remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. my truck is problem free now so far. fingers crossed. Just bought a 3800LB full self contand 11' cabover camper. found out that the truck bed top rail is 1" higher in the back than it is in the front. go figure? and its going to cost about 1100.00 to extend my hitch to pull a 10,000 LB boat but its just money
I'm thinking seriously about purchasing a 03 F250 6.0 diesel, with all the posts I see here now I'm not sure. But of course, I'm only seeing a 1/4 of the story. I Heard there was a silent recall on the 6.0 diesels; can anyone confirm that? I have a Piece of **** now (chevy) I dont want to buy my 1st ford and have it be a piece too. Any advice ? Has the problem been repaired on later model 03's?
My '03 FX4 continues to stall out at 40mph to highway speeds. I have now had a new turbo, a reflash and a new ICP. I was on vacation and left it with the service guy to drive last week (after ICP). I went today to pick it up and they told me it is still doing it and they have NO IDEA what the problem is and a Ford engineer is coming Mon.
This dealer/service does all the fleet work for my husband's company, as well as several others, and has dedicated, experienced diesel serviceman, so I trust them.
Being a woman, I have gone from "thrilled at my new truck" (a 50th birthday present from my husband, by the way) to very, very disappointed. At this point I think Ford needs to just replace he truck because I won't trust it again. Fortunately I live in CA and we seem to have strong lemon laws-or at least I'm about to find out.
I have just compleated my buy back and now have a truck That is not only new but also runs so much better than the old one.It was a long hard road but it ended well,to all with problems all I can say is stick with it call Ford and write letters also complain every time you get a chance to the place you got it and don't settle for just any one call the General Manager of the place. If you persist and work at it you to can have a truck that works.
Also don't listen to all the people that say you need a lawyer you don't I did it on my own and came out with a new truck and $3366.00 check for after market stuff left on truck and a free transfer of all my sound system and navagation system from my old truck to my new.Take it from a person who has done it,it isn't all that hard to do.Remember STICK WITH IT and you can do it.
F250 Crew Cab FX4 6.0 PSD, Date of Mfg 5/08/03.
I feel like a boat owner...two best days anectdote. Unfortunately, I have yet to see the second best day! I seem to have had several of the problems listed on these postings and a couple of new ones as well. Leaking injector, poor throttle response, leaking front axle seals, etc. I got a reflash 3 weeks ago to address the throttle response and it worked fine. Most of the problems have been fixed but I still have a very irritating "fluttering" noise most of the time. The noise pitch varies from low to high and right after the reflash it went into a low, almost acceptable range. During that period, my fuel economy (1 tank) hit 20mpg. The noise is back and I am back to 14 to 15 mpg. The Service Mgr. at the Ford dealer says that the noise is normal and is in 50% of the 6.0 trucks out there. I have taken several test drives in different vehicles to confirm and I haven't heard the noise in any of them. Anyone out there having the same problem? Any advice?
They have had the truck for 8 days now and no one knows whats going on. I have given it a lot of thought and if at all possible I am going to get my money back and wait for the diesel engines to get past the changes for 04. The resale value is going to be murder on the 03's because of the problems. I don't want to lose on both ends. I'll post the results as soon as I get them.....
Still have a lawyer and I will not only get my money back for all the trouble I have had with my truck. I can get up to 3% of the total cost of my truck back + a total refund + accessories. Cant say much more. Sorry DTharp
