03-05' 6.0L Excursion!?!

Have a 04' F-250, 4x4, 6.0L with 85K miles I bought 3-4 years ago, love the truck but have had nothing but trouble with the 6.0L....turbo, high pressure oil pump, wiring harness, oil cooler....all replaced/repaired at big $$$. Would like to replace with a 03-05' Excursion 4x4, diesel but am afraid of the 6.0. (I have already paid enough to FMC for diesel repairs) Did Ford get it right with the 6.0 during model year 05'...or am I dreaming? Is a low miles 03' 7.3 the answer or is the V-10 gas the answer? REALLY Like the diesel, when its running!

I have had very little problems with my 05. I just replaced my FICM this past week, and before that I had an alternator problem that was replaced and at 27K miles I had a failed EGR, other than that, no issues, my motor build date was August of 04. Now... I do already have Head Studs, gaskets new oil cooler and EGR Delete ready to go, but i havent had the need to install it just yet, but when my gaskets go, I am ready to drop and go.

I had to replace the FICM and do the EGR delete but other than that mine has been wonderful to me.

I had all of those same problems with my '04 6.0 Excursion and have since traded for a V10. I really did like the diesel when it was running but I don't miss the problems one bit.

I have an 05, and at 285,00 miles, I did injectors, and now at 292,00 an EGR delete, besides that nothing but ball joints , brakes and the basics.

I have an 05 F250 with the 6.0L. Zero problems and runs great all the time! I would take the plunge on another in a heartbeat. Considering maintenance and repair history of course.

All you guys that are having good luck with your 05's, are you just lucky, or did they actually change something that made a difference in reliability. I did not know that there were any MAJOR differences between the 03-04-05 6.0PSD's...

I don't think there were any major changes but plenty on minor ones. It has been a while since I read up on them. I had an 04 also without any issues. I still see the 04 once in a while with a landscape company and they have not had any issues. Seems like the 05 and ups do not experience as many problems as the earlier ones did.

There was some changes to the 2005 6.0, mostly upgrades with better parts that prevented alot of the problems of the 04. but the 05 had to be built in the middle to later part of 05.
I just traded my 05 for a new truck and I did not have any issues with it in the 2 years I had it until I got into some bad fuel and damaged the fuel pressure pump, frame water separator.

I kinda look at it as any modded vehicle(all my cars and trucks have been modded) I usually count the cost at the beginning as to how much I am wanting/willing to spend on upgrades, etc. Then I buy it with that in mind. Expect to spend $4-5k to make this truck a carefree driver and you will be happy!

I did all my upgrades and the bug has continued into makin it "pretty". I think if you plan on keeping it for a longtime, you will be most satisfied. If you want a short run...buy a newer diesel pickup with a big quad cab.

Enjoy the ride!
