6.0 Problems post
I´m here because of a serious problem with my new 6.0. Mine was built in early June but immediately started just stalling. It does it at idle in park, backing from a parking stall, on cruise at 65, accelerating around a corner from a stop sign (in traffic). We are retired, traveling fulltime towing a 13k lb fifthwheel. I live in dread this thing will die going down a twisty mountain road with trailer in tow. When it dies there´s no power steering or power brakes until I get it restarted. I´ve been in several conversations with the diesel specialists team, who elevated to regional. They had me take it to a local ford dealer who couldn´t duplicate the problem and washed his hands of it, as did the regional office. I love the way this engine tows this trailer but it´s an accident waiting to happen. Our children say if something happens to us they will sue the pants off Ford and go to the media, as well. I´m obviously not a happy camper. As we are traveling, I rarely have opportunity to get to this site, although we do frequently have email access in rv parks. Just thought I´d add my concerns to this list.

Steve,
Not to scare you - but waiting for something to happen is not acceptable in my book. My opinion is that you have a safety concern that should be addressed.
I'm incuding a hyperlink to an article which may or may not have heard of or be interested in. But at the bottom of that article is a person who has been tagged with solving these problems. Perhaps an e-mail or phone call would help.

Best of luck and drive safely.

GM didn't step up with my nieghbors chevy 3500 duramax. He finally had to use Missouri's lemon law. He has always been a chevy guy, and most of the time still is, so you know he was unhappy. Right now, he doesn't even have a truck. He is looking at the Ford 6.0 and Dodge Cummins, but hasn't decided yet. Oh, his chevy had a head gasket problem. And he did not reprogram it or make any mods to it.

Didn't think GM would. My dad used to be a Chevy guy until he had a 1980 Citation for a while, had quite a few problems with it and in 86 bought a Thunderbird was the best vehicle he ever had. Where do you live in Missouri? We're originally from St. Francois county.

I am just west of Six Flags. I can throw something and hit I-44, but I wouldn't. When I get to build a home on my brother and I's land, I'll be by St. Clair and Union. Wish that they would get I-44 done by 6 Flags, as it is a mess trying to go to work right now. What town in St. Francois county? I have a buddy there that is in Bloomfield (new Bloomfield?) and does alot with rearends and transfer cases.

That area is really growing up. Last time I was up there they had 6 or 8 lanes of highway running through there, if I remember back in the early 90's they only had 4 lanes. My mom's family was from Farmington, and dad's was from Elvins now Park Hills. Now me and my parents live just north of Tulsa. Sorry to get off topic just curious.

I have a '03 6.0 PSD crew cab 4x4 with 10k miles. Build date was 01/03. I have had it in the shop 3 times already due to the rough idle. After my first reflash it rode good for a while but then gradually started romping again then it started dying on me like at stop signs. It has died on me 5 times now. Kinda scarry knowing that when i pullout on a main road i have to make sure no cars are anywhere near because my truck might die. So i called the dealer and they said they had never heard of that and they would look at it. So i take it back to the dealer. They said it needed another update on the computer. Bull#*#t i think. I picked my truck back up 3 days ago and since the latest reflash i have lost a tremendous amount of power on take off. This morning i pulled out, hit the pedal and it had a terrible delay. So i get home and start looking over the truck and i notice a drip of oil coming from the rear end. To sum it up I wish i would have never traded my '00 7.3 . Most the problems with it were already worked out. Now i have a 43K $ truck that runs worse than the one i traded in. I have put a 6"suspension lift on my truck and 36"tires but i know that should have nothing to do with the problems. I average 11 mpg which is horrible but i can deal with that if the other problems would go away. What do you guys suggest i do. My dealer here in georgia hasnt a clue on how to fix the problems. Kinda scarry when the service manager tells me he doesnt know what to do. I cant keep going back and forth to the dealer and leaving my truck for 2-3 days at a time. Just to get worse problems than before. Should i check into lemon laws , wait for the fix or what? PLEASE HELP!!

Man o man toddnga2002 do I know that feeling!!! My truck went thu the same thing. My dealers service manager has been at his wits end too. But they did reflash the thing (same as last one before), and it did run better. I think there is some other post topics in here that may help you. From what I am getting the impression is we will never get our low end power back since the computer got reflashed. Mine used to light up all 4 rears from a 5 mph roll/punch it deal. Now it won't spin them at all.

I took my truck into the shop ONCE AGAIN this morning. They said i had blown a front pinion seal on the rear end. They replaced it. And so far the leak has stopped. I also called the 800 number for fords customer care this morning and put in a complaint about my truck. They said they would have a regional manager call me back within 2 days.

Sounds similar to my engine. I noticed my truck didn't have floor mats so I was on my way back to the dealer with 170 miles on the meter. While going 40 miles per hour the engine began stalling and the truck lost all power, right in the middle of a busy intersection. I tried to turn off the road, now headed for some railroad tracks. Now praying. I put on the brakes and shut off the dying engine. My first attempt to crank the engine produced a huge cloud of smoke out the exhaust, but still no power. I shut it off again. Second attempt to restart produced no power. I shut it off again, put the gears in neutral and allowed the truck to roll backwards away from the railroad tracks into the "zebra lane" figuring the truck was dead meat with me in it. Third attempt to restart sounded good, it seemed revved and ready to go. I put it in drive and it limped over the tracks and slowly built speed. After about 1000 yards it regained its normal power. I went straight to the dealer and made an appointment for tomorrow morning. He said there was a recall regarding the ICP. "We were trying to get all the trucks on the lot done, but we must have missed yours." He said once they change the ICP and reprogram it, (flash-dance?) it should be fine. He said they are now familiar with this exact situation...
We'll see...

Word from the PSD expert at the dealer was "replaced EGR valve". After all the tests he said that was all. Run KOEO and KOER produced codes PO404. After replacing EGR valve and running boost pressure test no codes were found. So I hope that is the fix for my episode. The dealership here has 4 PSD experts and I was told this guy is one of the best. Hope this helps anyone else with a related situation. I do enjoy the ride, very smooth. Thank goodness they didn't have to mess with a "re-flash".

Let me start by saying I pull a 10,000lb horse trailer every weekend with 3 horses and tack. Just recently came back from New Mexico 1360 miles one way. My new 6.0 lost throttle response on the low rpm's. Went to two dealers before they figured out what was wrong. Seems Ford elected to put second rate injectors in their new 6.0's, instead of the old Caterpilar ones. 5 of the eight where leaking. Ford knows about the problem and seems to be moving slow towards any recall. The also know the have a problem with software, so what ever you do don't let them reprogram your truck's software, you will end up with a dogg! Seems as if they know this problem too, but are moving slowly again. What's up, with FORD? Die hard Ford person here with a $45,000. F350 Dually -------- I want my 7.3 BACK!!!!!
