I would like any information concerning Edge tuners causing overheating problems on a 2004 6.0 4x4 dually. Before adding the tuner i had arp studs, oem head gaskets, new heads, new fuel injectors, new water pump, belts and hoses, thermostat, oil cooler, hpop, ipr valve, and a few other things done. EGR delete with egr valve still in place and hooked up and 4 inch straight exhaust. 14 months later while pulling fifth wheel about 5 miles motor overheats and blew head gasket. Mechanic said he found nothing wrong with anything he did and blames it on the Edge tuner. Coolant temp reached 253 and didn't defuel and i didn't hear fan running.
Mine is a manual, but I tow on stage two edge. Always have. I run stage 5 empty,,, everywhere. There was a different problem than the edge, unless you was trying to roll up mountains with a load the same speed you would without a load. I have never seen any differences in temperature relating to the different stages on my edge. Egt,,,, that's a different story. Im normally backing outta it cause my egt is sky high. The exhaust gas is my only indication of the stages (and the power changes,,, obviously). If I push my truck,, stage 2 or stage 5, it heats up. But not to 250. Heck, I doubt I could even get my truck that hot even on stage 5 towing. Was you watching your temps while towing? I think if I ever see 225, Id be backing outta it. I was towing west a couple weeks ago pulling into Butte mt, 100* ambient, I was in a hurry, and I remember I saw 221 ect. If any of you have been there,,, its a mean grade. A properly running coolant system will keep the temps in check.
I have been towing my 12K fifth wheel with my Edge for 3 years (seasons). I have been very happy with it and it has done nothing but give me heads up when something isn't right which in turn has saved me some cash.
Which one are you running? new CTS or older Insight? Defueling % can be set for EGT, and warnings for ECT / EOT temps. where these set?

Reason: added info..
Doesn't it make since that the ECT should be closely watched when you are towing? Seems to me that if you get up above 220 it would be time to not hope the truck will save itself. I don't have a tuner, but I suppose the throttle position and gear selection has more to do with this issue.
Yes, it does make sense. I monitor those critical temperatures everytime I drive.
There are a few questions: How long did it take to develop those temps? What settings were being used (Tow / Haul and Edge setting) Alerts set?
I am using an Edge Juice Platinum with Attitude. While towing, I am in Tow/Haul mode and in Tow (2). I have set my unit up to watch Boost, ECT, EOT, and EGT. Alerts are set to 1250 EGT, 230 ECT, 230 EOT, 30 PSI Boost, Torque Converter is on in Tow/Haul mode, Shift Defuel Setting at 100%.
Although I have not pulled through anything like mountains in the west, I have had the opportunity to pull through some pretty long grades in 90F weather. I don't think I broke 220 ECT.
I don't believe the Edge caused the OPs overheat condition.
