NEED HELP WITH TUNERS

I recently purchased a truck that has a Edge display, and an SCT tuner.
The last owner said the tuner was set in "TOW 2".
the edge display says power level "I"

Last night i thought i would turn the tune down from "tow 2" to "tow 1"

since doing that, over 2500 rpm the truck surges like i am pressing and releasing the accelerator pedal, even though i am not. and the truck has really increased in power and peak EGT.

the surging is leading me to believe the edge and sct are stacked? But i dont know if the edge display has a tuning capability, is there a way to know?

After i programmed the truck to "tow 1" I am seeing a considerable amount of black smoke and 1350 egt. which makes me ask the question, how can this be "tow 1" is there a way to tell if these are custom tunes?

Previous owner did AFE intake, exhaust system, EGR delete. i really just want a tune set for fuel mileage, firm shifts, and the EGR turned off. I was looking at the DP tuner website, at the tunes i can download and put on the SCT, there are a bunch, any suggestions?

Hopefully these questions aren't redundant, I've only ever owned 7.3's, this truck is making me feel pretty ignorant.

How did you change from tow1 to tow2? If it was on the edge then it has tuning capabilities and I would put it to stock and just use it for gauges.

Does the edge have a touch screen? If it does there will be up and down arrows at the top of the screen that set the power level, if it doesn't have tuning ability the arrow buttons won't do anything and that will tell you that it is an Insight CTS.

That is a good thing then. Have you tried returning the truck to stock and see if the surge goes away? Also have you checked to see if you have any DTC codes? Are you using OEM oil/fuel and OEM oil filter cap? You will know the aftermarket filter cap as it is abnormally tall looking, here is a video explaining the problems with aftermarket filters,

So I've been playing around with this thing.. it does have NAPA filters in it.. I'll work on changing those.

In the stock setting the surge is almost not noticeable. I was running through the settings on the edge monitor and found an alarm for the ICP voltage. I set the alarm up to go off at 4.0v, and under acceleration is dips down to 3v. Could this be causing the surge? If not, i'm assuming it still needs to be repaired. What is the fix? a new sensor?
