So I'm doing my tranny swap..97 F250, stock suspension height,E40D. I have the front of the truck on ramps because my jack stands wouldn't go high enough. How do you get it up high enough for the bell housing to clear the bottom of the frame while the tranny is on the jack? Or do you have to do some wrangling to get it in and out?
I couldnt get my truck up high enough either so I ended up sliding the trans off the jack onto a furniture dolly while it was still under the truck. Kind of a PITA but it was easier than trying to get the truck up high enough.
Wrangling more like it. It also helps to jack the front of the motor up slightly to angle out the rear of the engine for the tranny!
Yah..I got it off the engine ok..just had to wrestle it from under the truck! Lol. Sitting on the jack, its about 5" too tall to slide out. I had to pick up the rear of the jack to get it out.
all the pics i've seen from the boys at bts, they jack up the rear of the truck. thats also how i done mine. but i have the 4r100 , maybe there's a diffirence though. just a thought.
Buy bigger tires . My e40d came out without a hitch, but I did have to drop the zf5 off of the jack to get it in. They slide pretty easily on concrete.

i just dropped my auto of the jack, and then dragged it out from underneath.. had to go and get my wifes kitty litter, since i made a mess on the carport though :-)
The ZF was laid on its side and the slid underneath and wrestled onto the jack..
BTW i had less clearance, because i have fiberglass running boards
when i did the 5 speed to auto swap on my 88 i was able to sit under the truck and remove the trans with no problem, but had to knock it off the jack to get it out. and the auto had to be slid under, then put on the jack.
both of them were around 3 inches too tall to fit under on the jack.
