Transmission Jack Placement?

Does anyone have any pictures showing proper placement of a Transmission Floor Jack adaptor to the transmission or can explain placement? I've never used an adaptor
before and I want to make sure I'm using it correctly. Thank you.

Transmission Jack Placement?

You mostly need to be concerned about centering the weight. I've been working on my NP435 and if you have it chained or strapped down and the load is centered it is very stable. There is no one right way, I suppose, but I guess there are some wrong ways. I think you'll know once you crawl under there and start unbolting things.

Transmission Jack Placement?

If you have a 4 speed there is no easy way. I had to torch one of the arms on my Walker tranny jack so I could get it close enough to the cross member for the tranny to set in the saddle.
I have also came in through the door with a cherry picker and once I rigged up a 4x4 through the windows then laid a piece of angle iron over it to the dash and hung a come along off the angle iron to raise the tranny. I had a 2 foot long 2x6 under the angle iron to protect the dash

Transmission Jack Placement?

I understand your problem. Especially if your car is only 18 inches off the ground. I just made a big decision myself, I wanted a tranny jack, but couldn't figure out how to practically use the darn thing, so I gave up and bought a 2 ton picker. I am not sure if this picker will do a good job on various lifts or drops, but it did a nice job lowering a front wheel dr transaxle. I hooked the chains where the motor mount studs were and lowered the tranny to the ground, it isn't too hard to drag a tranny out from under once it is down. The other guys are right , it is a matter of balancing the trans any way you can. It takes a little engineering skill and perserverance to use one of those things.
