Tranny installation

I was just wondering what would be the easiest way to put in a tranny with BASIC tools. I don't have a tranny jack or anything like that, just a couple 1 ton hydraulic jacks. I have a 78 f-100 custom with a 4 inch suspension lift and 33 inch tires. My tranny is an NP435 with a Dana 21 transfer case. I was thinking about bench pressing my tranny up onto the crossmember , then sliding it forward to my bellhousing, but putting a jack underneath to stop it from falling between the bellhousing and crossmember. I'm going to have to remove my exhaust to do it, which is kinda crappy. Umm if anybody knows any tricks or tips, please help out, I'll be attempting this amzing feat in a couple of days. Thanks.

Can you afford to go out and buy a floor jack? It would be a good investment because you will use it for alot of other things, and I have put in trannies by myself with one. The hard part is getting the tranny up on the jack while under the vehicle. Once you do that, you can balance the tranny on the jack while you move the handle up and down with your feet. Or better yet, get the wife or girlfriend to pump the jack while you hold on to the trans. If you point the jack handle to the front of the vehicle, as the jack goes up, it will naturally move the trans forward. Once you get it close, you can roll the jack a little to try to engage the bellhousing together. It's not going to be fun, no matter how you do it.

I dont see anyone bench pressing a np435 into a truck with a 4 inch lift, you will need to aqquire a floor jack and even then its a chore
