Fire dept new truck problems--missing out, transmission code

I'm a volunteer fireman in a small Kansas town. We just bought a 01 F450 with a V10 and 100K miles on it. We bought a new truck but can't get it rigged out for another 3 months. Our other 86 truck laid down, so we needed a grass fire truck fast. Well truck cuts out until it has run for about 10 minutes. Sometimes it just dies, put scanner on to check for codes but says it cannot communicate with it. It's an OTC scanner with software up to 07. Scanner works fine on everything else I have hooked up to. Now we are getting a transmission code on shifter. Need to figure this out before the 3 days to return if it is something major. Thanks for any help

You may not have power to the OBDII port thus not being able to communicate. The cigarette lighter and OBDII port are on the same fuse. Check for a blown fuse. Retrieving the codes is a must.

I agree. Without the codes there is no way to find out what's happening, other than randomly buying parts until you find the problem.

Thanks for the reply's, fuse is good, power on 2 pins, but don't detect a ground. Just not sure what to do, does someone have a pin diagram? I had this happen before, and it turned out to be pcm.
