I have a 2000 excursion with a 6.8L engine. It sputters like it may be skipping or not getting enough gas. It only does this after it is warms and at low rpm's. I have changed all of the plugs and coil packs. Anyone have any ideas?
I had a mechanic check it out and he found a skip on the number 5 cylinder with his scanner. He changed the plug and the coil, even though I had just changed them. He said the truck was fixed at that point, but it started again before I got it home. I thought it could be an EGR valve problem, but there is not one on this truck.
Tjis is going to sound dumb.. but did you replace with a FORD COP or generic one? Did you torque the spark plug correctly? Did you make sure the boot went completely on?

I used accel coil packs and motorcraft plugs. I went through and checked the plugs for torque and they are correct. The boots are on good the mechanic also checked. I thought about an injector, but that should make it worse when I give it more gas. 2 mechanics have checked it so far and no luck.
I thought about that too, but the engine light is not on and I have no code showing for the O2 sensor.
I didn't have a code or a CEL on 90% of the time either. It was weird... it would stall and after start up the CEL would light for maybe 2 minutes and disappear for a week...
Replaced the O2 sensors and cleaned the MAF. The worst of the problem is gone. Still a little shudder every once in a while, but not like the V-twin sound it had before. I bought a new PCV and will replace that next chance I get.
Dang, i'm having a very similar issue, although, mine is a clear misfire on one of the cylinders atleast, idles like a 7.3, and low rpms, causes a shutter so bad it feels like truck will fall apart! thinking...(Hoping) mine's a coil issue
