These are pics of the caboose we rented for the weekend and the geared logging steam locomotive that hauled us out to the middle of nowhere and left us on a siding for 3 days. 30th anniversary trip. Other than the steam excursion that passed occasionally, no contact with the outside world for 3 days.
What an awesome thread. I also love steam trains
and cars. Got to crawl all over a Stanly Steamer in
a museum in 2000. They are hugeish as hell. Ya
almost need a ladder to get in the seat. So whats the
plan for the 4014? Is it still under restoration? Up and
running? IDK. Anybody? There is a lot of info in this
thread and I will prolly spend a few hours watching all
the vids. mostly the ones that come up after the ones
ya all post. Questions like when did Big Boy last move
under it's own power? Does it now? Or can it? I plan
to do the Alaska train trip in the next couple of years.
I need to pick ND Bills brain some abut it as I think
he has been there and done that. What say you Bill?

This summer we stopped into the UP train yard in N. Platte, NE ( largest in the world). The docent indicated that the Big Boy will be in Cheyenne another 1-2 yrs minimum, changing from the original coal as fuel, to fuel oil feeding this beast.
If you're into trains and nearby, you've got to stop in.
