The Everett RR in Hollidaysburg PA is running their recently restored 1920 Alco 2-6-0 on excursions. We stopped on our way through a couple weekends ago to watch her pull out of the station.
time to steam this thread back to the top.... from what ive seem UP post on their facebook page for the steam operations i guess 4014 is back together and passed its hydro testes a week or so ago. also was mentioned that they would release travel plans for this year.
havent kept up with that facebook page, i left the page because of the constant whining on when where and how UP should send 4014, and the constant "you should restore so and so engine next bla bla bla lol. i am just glad to see what they have operational.
The cockpit The crankshaft. As Jimmy put it, this engine has the components outside vs a typical gas automotive engine with the components inside. Chain to drive lubricating system Nice plaque on top of the engine. Jimmy, one of the Big Boy mechanics. Knew all of the answers!
I happen to be in central Minnesota up at our families farm when I noticed that the Big Boy was stopping in Duluth along a Midwest tour, going east to Chicago before returning back to Cheyenne.
I'm an hour or so from Duluth so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see it firsthand.
As shown above, it's an amazing piece of history to just observe up close.
I'll add some pictures shortly.
