Decisions decisions ???

So today I went out to a friends house to ask about setting up tri-power and we got chatting and next thing I know he's offering me a 88 ford f250 with no trans or title. The truck is not stolen it's just when tranny went out and guy found out cost to repair he left it there. Truck has good running injected 351. All I have to do is haul it out and of course dispose of it when done. No big deal, donate rolling body to scrap yard, I did it years ago. My decisions are to have a 292 tri power or newer motor with larger cubes. I've wanted a t5 and the 302 bell housing and trans will work. Ugh. Any thought on this. PS I like the Y block.

I think you'll find that donating it to a yard without a title isn't possible any more. They need paperwork to prove ownership. Welcome to the new Amerika.

Hooking up a clutch mechanism would be the main challenge on the T5, along with new motor and trans mounts. You might check with John Mummert, FORD Y, if you could adapt the 351 to the Y-block bellhousing and the T5 to the BH, you'd eliminate a lot of work.

I though 351 and 302 took same bellhousing? If not then it is too much trouble. I may not like this new Amerika you speak of.

Okay you lost me. Did you want the 351 or not at the end of the message you want to keep the Y block. The only reason I'm asking if you don't want the 351 then don't take the truck. Like ALBUQ said it may be a pain in the *** to get rid of the rest of the truck here in Texas last time I had something like that I filed for a salvage title and they send me a one way title to the salvage yard for a VW it may be harder on a newer vehicle. Plus the friend or shop own should ask do you want this thing or not come and get it or bring me the title or he can file for abandonment title and claim it. Once again you have to careful because the own can come back and say hey what happen to my truck and take legal action.

DC you are right. In answer to your question I like the Y. I like the sound ect. The worst part about them are getting some replacement parts. Like getting parts for a 60 yr old truck is easy. I have the tri-power for the Y block and I kinda want to get it going.

I'm lost too! What does a 302 and 351 having the same BH have to do with it? The 292 is in it, right? And has a BH with motor/trans mounts on it? A 302/351 BH won't have those mounts, so you'd have to make new front crossmember with mounts to the small block engine, cut out the crossmember that is holding the 292's BH, and fab in a new crossmember for the T5's tailshaft housing. On top of that, the clutch on a typical SBF is a lever that goes forward to release. You can modify the stock 292's linkage to actuate that but it won't be easy. As I recall, the stock linkage pulls back on the lever.

Yap my uncle told me the same thing. I sold my Y block and trans out of my 55 as soon as I got the front end off of it. Behind it sits a police car everything there except the body I pulled it and took it down to the salvage yard. I planning on using the frontend, engine, trans and rearend for the 55 the problem I have is too many projects going on at once.

Ross, with the 54 I was planning on going T5 later as money comes available and from what I read the two motors have the same inter-change ability. If that was so it would have made the 351 kind of easier for that change.
Right now I have a running 292 in it with truck 4 speed. We were talking about P71 suspension and possible motor change like DC did. That would make for a very good driver and replacement parts are easy to find. But I like the older stuff Y-blocks and Flatheads but to each his own.
I so far have decided to get the tri-power on and running and just enjoy it as I have for last 13yrs.
My friend can probably get title because he took apart trans AOD to check it out and with everything the guy wanted done was way high. The owner said I can buy a new truck for the price and turned and left the truck there.

I've scrapped entire carcasses from parts cars and trucks, frames, engines and bodies, without titles but when I took them to the scrapper they didn't look like a car anymore, just a pile of scrap. Well, I will admit a few of them were just a little better than a pile of scrap when I got them.

or you could always buy it with a bill of sale, apply for a lost/missing title. toss a C4 in it and sell it pretty fast to get some extra cash for the Y-block project

See what I mean, decisions ugh. I've always wanted to try my hand at multi carb adjustments (crazy I know). I remember seeing the old GTO or Road Runners with 6packs and thought they were cool, so I'll try that on the 292. I will probably regret it but gonna try.
