I drive a 1994 f250 7.3 IDI turbo diesel and I have no idea what transmission it has I want to rebuild it but need to know what kind came stock on it so I can buy the parts if anyone knows I would greatly appreciate it.
If it's an auto it's an E4OD.
Not to sound rude or anything (I'm just trying to help here), but if you don't know what kind of transmission you have and you check online to find out, you probably shouldn't be rebuilding it yourself. I would find a buddy that knows what he's doing or find a good reputable shop. Either way you go with it, I wish you the best of luck
Thank man my uncle is a transmission mechanic I just needed to buy the parts and I'm gonna take him my truck.
There ya go sounds like a good deal!
What kind of problems are going on with your truck? Hopefully nothing is broken and you can get out cheap with just a rebuild kit and not have to replace hard parts. Also, I'd advise you to get a new torque converter while you're at it. I just patched my 160,000 mile E4OD in my Bronco and only 3000 miles later my torque converter started shuddering.
if you have an auto trans (not sure why you haven't stated this yet) then don't jump to conclusions.there are a great deal of many things that can go wrong electrically, that will cause the trans to function as if it appears totally broken and a lost cause.don't let electrical gremlins fool you.
Yea its a automatic its just slips gears like ill be going 55 and it will slip out of over drive and down shift then slam back into over drive and it will also happen on the lower gears not just over drive it just down shifts and will slip, I don't romp it cause I like to save fuel so idk why it happens
Have you made sure that it's full of fluid?
Low fluid will cause any auto trans to act funky. When you check it, what's it look like, what's it smell like? Burnt smell and dark brown/black is no good.
Yes I've checked it I even changed the filter on it its reds doesn't stink i mean transmission fluid stinks anyways but na doesn't have a burnt smell or anything like that. I do want a bullet proof transmission anyways so I think Im gonna keep the stock look of the trany but the in side have all new upgraded parts in it

often this is seen when the MLPS connector is dirty or the sensor is failing.
this is the sensor located on the drivers side of transmission.
the trans can go into neutral when this sensor or connector fails, and when it makes contact again,it can incorrectly chose a lower gear.when it does so,it sounds god awful.i know iv had it happen on my previous trans.
if you notice the speedometer or the tach needle bounce when this happens, then it could be an issue with those sensors or psom.so watch closely at those things next time it happens.and next time it happens, don't let it find it's gear on it's own again.slide it into N quickly and coast to a stop.then place it in D again and continue.really, you should inspect the mlps plug before driving the truck again.this is how i drove mine home, then cleaned the connector and never had it happen again.
keep mechanical issues at the rear of your mind.as last resort.always assume it's an electrical issue when the E40D acts up.
