New member to site and Ford. Found my bone stock 02 7.3 Excursion about 1.5 months ago. The wagon is far from stock now thanks to information found on this site. After this heading over to the lift section to post up my numbers and give a little back.
As mentioned i'm new to Ford. Been driving an 08 Duramax CCSB for 8 years and love it. I remember when Iooking for that truck I passed on all Superduty trucks older than 05 due to the dated dash/interior but now I can't get enough of driving the excursion, funny how life works.
Think I posted in the wrong section, I'll take this over to the new member thread.
welcome to FTE Ramos , I’d much rather ride in a ford seat than a Chevy seat , my son in law has a Duramax , I couldn’t wait to get out of that seat , crunched the puppy’s way too close , if ya know what I mean .any way welcome

hey guys i am in fresno so not sure if this is the right one for me, also i have a 71 f100 and again not sure if this is the right area? just posting cuz thats what i was informed i needed to do. really appreciate all the info here and the willingness of my fellows to help a brother (or sister) out
You are in the right place. The chapter leader is from Fresno. As for the 71 F100 all Ford trucks are welcome. This is the new member thread, there are threads for your 71 F100 as well as engine threads and transmission threads in case you are looking for more info about your truck. Even bodywork threads and electronics. If you are looking to join, just click on the link at the bottom of my post, and I will take care of it.
Thanks! I'm new to California, just moved from Michigan where I worked for Ford and worked on those fancy electronics that my 75 has none of
Welcome angry_fred. Hopefully, California won't make you any angrier, but if it does, hopefully the nicer weather and the lack of snow and road salt screwing up your '75 will help make up for it.
What vehicle subsystem(s) did you work on the fancy electronics for? (ie, ADAS or ?)
But perhaps you can shed some light on something that Orwell predicted back in 1948...
Is it true that Ford is putting in cellular modems for FREE in ALL Ford vehicles...
Because THEY (BB) are watching our every move?
Sync 3 is a pretty radical improvement. The modems are going to be free but they're very sensitive about protecting Ford's good name, so although certain data is probably going to be sent back to Ford, it won't be tied to your name, VIN, or anything that can be traced to you and IIRC you'll be able to disable it.
Of course you can also do a modem delete if you're really paranoid. That said, I plan to leave mine plugged in on my next truck. The data is used to figure out what people use and allocate money toward building the right new features.
I don't know the details of the Secure SDLC or even much about whether it exists (even if I did I would probably be under NDA). That said, there is almost zero chance that Ford would do something to alienate the enthusiast crowd like that.
The main reason for a lot of the security is to meet EU regulations and ensure that these computerized cars can't get hacked (like what happened to Jeep). Qualified manufacturers will likely be able to sign up for some sort of program to allow them to access the secured systems.
Ford touched on the security of the Smart Data Link Connector in the 2020 model year measurement session for body builders that took place earlier this month. I'm pretty sure "they" created all this stuff just to track down whether or not I put trash in the recycling or recycling in the trash. Not that I'm paranoid or anything.
Speaking of tracking... If I have a Ford Pass Mobile App on my phone, can I track down the location of my truck when someone else is driving it? So if they say they are at a job, when they are actually at Burger King, I'll know about it?

LOL. It sounds like SDLC is just a way to provide a breakout for things that are no longer easy to read based on whether a wire is hot. Nothing data tracking related there and I doubt they'll lock it down too hard. Even if they do, someone will crack it.
The Ford Pass app is geared more toward stolen vehicle tracking, where you give explicit consent for them to track your truck. General tracking that you're talking about is probably something you'd need to talk to fleet sales about, as things get more touchy when you've got an always on GPS tracker.
