Thats why I do all my own work. Just dont trust anyone nor want to pay the ridiculous labor & parts fees these places charge...especially a dealer!

Agreed, id rather have my truck down for a month fixing it myself rather than being told to just "drive it until it breaks. hopefully you don't get hurt or anyone else gets hurt, but we cant find the issue."....lol worst advice i have ever received I'm not gonna risk killing someone or myself. what if it broke and i got in a head on crash with another car...its a big truck lol i could really hurt someone and I could never live with that....idk that's where i drew the line lol now I'll do it all myself. Doing this kinda work always intimidated me but I'd rather learn....plus I'm super picky and will make sure everything is perfect lol so it will last longer.

So I got the passenger axle shaft out today...it was completely frozen on 1 part of the ujoint. The mechanic checked it my ***! there is no way that its ok the way it is...I believe I have found my issue lol. Video below of my trying to turn it...I was putting as much force as I could on it and it wouldn't budge.

Sweet deal man. I hope that fixes it. I hate when my truck is down. And yes that is completely unacceptable for your mechanic to say he checked that. If he can't tell that's not right I wouldn't let him fix my bicycle much less a 3.5 ton truck

Checking those front u-joints is more involved that just looking at it and maybe wiggling it like a rear joint. They can be frozen and still look good with no red rust dust or pieces of needles showing because they are subjected to water and non use so they go through a "dry but still intact" stage which is hard to detect, so don't let anyone tell you they looked at them and they were fine.

I agree before he did my ball joints a few weeks ago all he did was lift it up and try to wiggle them. The thing that really pisses me off is he had them out when he did my ball joints and he said he greased everything before he put them back in. The drivers side ujoint had grease but the passenger side looked untouched, almost like he ignored it.

Lol i totally agree, especially after seeing this id rather let my truck sit for a month while i slowly pick away at fixing rather than take it somewhere and get it done. Needless to say all he is seeing my trucks for is inspection stickers.

Maybe he assumed grease was going in but it's not greased until you see grease oozing out............not a good mechanic.

Yours is worse than mine and you saw the photos below of what it looked like when I got it out. When I was at your stage in the process mine moved both way but was stiff one direction and you could just feel it grind. But I could force it to move. Interested to see what the inside looks like, post pics.

Will do! I took pictures of the drivers side but it looked normal. Ill definitely post up pics of this. I'm going to soak it for 2 days because it looks way older than my drivers side.

Be interesting to see if it cures the "death steer"? Once the new ones installed keeper greased...I grease mine when I rotate the tires so about every 4-5K. Did you locate Spicer UJoints? If so share the part number please.

TX Monte!
BTW dont over grease a ujoint you should see just a little wicking out around the cup seals after you have driven it. So it doesn't take much... a pump or two at most. I usually look at the seals when pumping. You can see them just start to expand...stop your there. If you go too far it can unseat the seal and allow road grit & H2O easy access to the bearings.
