So I was driving down the interstate today and noticed my EOT at about 216, empty cruise set at 78, outside temp about 45. After about 15 miles it got up to about 221 and stayed there. Got on the 2 lane and at 55 it dropped to about 205. Is this normal? What is it gonna do this summer when I start pulling my trailer?
I'm monitoring it with my infinity. Just got the truck mid NOV so I don't know much about it. 78MPH is about 2400RPM and it was the same no matter what tune I was in. I know my HPOP is getting a little weak but pressures ok on lower HP settings.
That runs a little hotter than mine(I am usually at 196*), but those temps are nothing to worry about. See what is starts doing when it warms up(weather). If it starts getting any higher, you may want to look into some components of the cooling system. Also, if you can, check the oil temp with an infrared temp gun to make sure the sensor is not faulty.
Just don't try to look at the coolant temp... there is no sensor tied into the OBDII system. It will read crazy stuff like 300 degrees when dead cold. The dash gauge is what you have for coolant, but EOT should let you know when you have elevated coolant temps. I have a laser thermometer in the carputer bag to confirm temp readings here and there. I compared it with a big professional unit and it was dead-on.

Do you have a stock thermostat?
Oh, and I hope you are enjoying the Infinity.
Not sure which thermostat it has, I've only had the truck a couple months.
I'm planning on flushing the radiator among other things when it warms up and there is more shade under my tree.

Do you just take a reading off the engine block? You just reminded me I have a professional grade infared thermometer around here somewhere. Now if I can just find it.
Where do you take it to get tested. I bought the truck at a dealership and assumed it had fresh oil, it looked fresh on the dipstick. Guess I'll plan on changing that soon too, so I know.
you can use one of several oil analysis labs,as in Blackstone,Polaris,Schaeffers & several others.most of them sale you a sample kit ,[ bottle & form] to fill out pull clean sample from dip stick tube or drain some out from pan plug & they send back results just dont sample the first pint of oil that comes from bottom of the pan & prefer engine warm just after shut down.
