So after reading a lot of info on here......I was driving home today and noticed this....my coolant temp holds at like 178+/- so I changed the pid for a engine oil temp reading so I can do a delta reading....which should be up 15deg........and my oil temp was residing 199+/- 5.........should I go and replace the thermostat .......and the outside temp is 31 deg right now
That and make sure the temps are within a degree or so after cold soak, the whole delta tsb test requires that the coolant is up to temp. Around 190, Either you thermostat is not allowing this or your sensor is off
IF your ect temp is 188-190 during summer, a new tstat might only fix it temporarily. Lot of folks reporting 180-ish ect in cold weather. Even after a new tstat the ect temps drop after a few weeks/months as outside temps fall.
You might try an fia cold weather front or put something in front of radiator to block some air..
I'm right around 176-179 EOT/ECT. Temps -4F. Try blocking the rad if you want it higher. What i've read, these are normal in lower temps.
I think that +15 temp your looking at is the delta. If it's out more than that range then you have other issues to address. If your within a 15degree delta your ok.
Correct if I'm wrong guys/gals.

I must admit my truck has never seen that cold. So I cannot comment on what is "normal" sub freezing. Just going off what I know the tsb stated. I hate to say don't worry about it. As my truck was at 37 degree deltas but..... In order to know if the oil cooler is in fact clogging the tsb would have to be followed. So determining why his coolant is not 190 ish is the question here. Once it is ,then he can actually watch the deltas and make a decision.
Unless your ect is 'close' to 190 or above, the 15* delta doesn't apply. Plus, in very cold temps the delta is likely inaccurate. Plus, (normally) you need to be on hiway (engine already fully warmed up) for 15 min to observe the delta, in very cold temps on the hiway the delta will likely be misleading too.
Those temp readings was from today while driving for 30 min........it is defiantly running cooler in the winter......190+/- in the summer.......truck is running great....just been reading and was just wondering if I had an issue.....I will try and block off some airflow and see if it come in on the deltas
Thanks to everyone for the replies .......this site rocks......now just to figure out this mobile app......
