DP Tuner Installed

I installed my DP Tuner. I got the F5 with the EX Switcher. I ordered four tunes. 0 and 1 come from DP as No Start and Stock. I ordered 2,40 hp Tow, 3, Decel, 4, 60 hp Tow and 5, 60 hp Economy. The installation was simple enough. I mounted the EX switcher on the lower gauge on my Pillar. The only scare I had was after all was installed, I turned on the key...and...the EX switcher did not light up....and... the truck would not start...... I was going out to disconnect the batteries to pull it all out and check and then I thought that maybe the Switcher was in 0 mode for no start. I turned on the key and.......the Switcher lit up? Truck started!!!

I got a chance to drive to town on 60 hp Economy...Wow! The throttle response was awesome. The only other tune I got a chance to test was Decel.. We have quite a few steep hills in our little town and the Decel tune was great!

I can't wait to hook up the trailer and try it towing the reason for all the upgrades...

Thanks DP

I think the overhead mpg meter might need to be tweaked...I use to average 18.5mpg going to town... I reset the overhead before I left and Wow! By the time I got home about 30 miles....I wish!

Yeah, all bets are off on the OH computer now. For $2 I installed the Gas Cubby app on my phone to keep track of my fill-ups now.

My DP is off with Jody getting my tow tune re-calibrated a bit (harsh 4-3 downshift while towing). I sure miss my 60e tune. The first day with it unhooked, I went to pull out of the parking lot at work into traffic and kept looking down to see if I had left the parking brake on. I saw this morning I was charged for return shipping, so it should be back on the truck soon.

I may have to hook up the Toy Hauler just to go out and try the tow tunes before I actually leave on a trip. Drop a line and let me know how the retune went..

Excellent choice of tunes. I had a bunch of tunes from DP and those were my favorites with the stock injectors.

Sure will.

Kept mine simple - Stock, 60e, 20t, decel. The 60 is plenty for me running single. The 20t does a great job (other than the harsh downshift) pulling the 15K fiver. I debated going ahead and having a 40t added on. I see pretty much no difference in EGT between stock and 20t, which one would probably about expect, but I did gain a few PSI of boost.

Congrats on the new tuner! Totally different truck right?

It's incredible to feel what a tuner can do to the 7.3's.

I have had nothing but good luck with my DP tuner. 60 tow 60 E and 80 E
I run up the grapevine at 70mph not totally in to the peddle towing my toyhauler at 8K (weight).

I use to run up the hill at 52mph almost floored stock.

the only time i got any kind of hard shift was when i was in 80E and the truck was totally cold. It will bang hard, if you get hard in to it by accident (cold).
after 5 or 10 minutes of driving, all is good

Jody tell's you in his paperwork that you get with the tuner to let the trans get up to temp before you get in to it.

I have never had a hard shift up or down while towing in 60 tow

I let my diesel friends drive my truck and don't tell them it's in stock mode.
Then i tell them to stop and put it in 5, 80E

The look on their face's is priceless..

My harsh 4-3 downshift is a combination of the BTS trans tune and my heavy trailer. Sure, it slams down into third with authority, but I fear leaving a chunk of u-joint in the pavement behind me at some point. Plus, it causes my truck and trailer to porpoise down the road for a couple of oscillations, which unnerves me a bit. Jody was quick to offer to massage the tune a bit to smooth things out, which I appreciate.

All other shifts are firm but smooth, just the way I would expect.

X2 on the decel ( as well as the others for that matter ). My fifth wheel is 10K empty and even with some "stuff" loaded I barely need to touch the brakes on 6-7% grades

Congrats, wise choice. I have 20, 40, 60 & 80T along with others since I pull a variety of trailers & would be lost without it.
