Has anyone got a pic of the SS trim around there windshield.Trying to install mine and it all most seems to big to fit in the rubber seal. From what I can tell it looks like the one edge of the trim fits in the grove of the rubber the the other edge goes right against the glass.I would of thought that when installed there would be rubber on both sides of the trim.Hope I kind of explained it right.
The shop manual has instructions on how to do it. I have removed and installed the trim on my windshield a couple of times. To start, do you have the correct rubber seal? There are two types, one for the trim piece and one without. There is an outer slit for the SS trim piece.
The first bit of advice I have is not follow the manual. I tried and it never worked. I install all of the trim around the rubber first, leaving the bottom loose and then forcing it in the rubber after the window is installed. The shop manual says to install the entire trim piece, that has never worked for me. Second, you need three hands and then another person to help. It's PIA to install. I use a lot of soapy water in a spray bottle.
That's a very helpful post but installing the stainless trim adds a whole new dimension to the installation. I tried to follow the instructions in the manual and just couldn't get it done. I left the bottom parts dangle and installed them after I had the window in. I used a nylon window tool to work the ends into the provided slot.
BTW, the metal tabs mentioned in the link provided, I cut them out no matter if I'm using the SS trim piece or not. The instructions say to cut them out if using the SS trimp piece but the trim does nothing to hold the windshield in. I've broke a couple of windshields because of those stupid useless tabs. I grind them off. They also another place for rust to start.
Mine did not have the tabs and it doesn't look like it had them and got cut off, but I see no other sign that mine was the upgraded 5 star. The PO had all the glass that he had purchased but never installed. There was no glass in the truck at all and no stainless trim. The new rubber that came with the glass isn't set up for the trim.
Thanks for the help everyone.I figured out how it goes into the rubber.I was trying to but the wrong edge of the trim into the rubber.I have now tried to install the trim first but it just wont stay in the rubber so I tried with the glass in the rubber and still no luck.I am going to try putting it all in the truck then trying it to get trim in.All most seems like my trim is deformed a little. All the corner radius's are not the same.I got it at a swap meet.Maybe someone else couldnt get it in? It may become wall art.
i just got my glass back from the glass shop the windshield arived with the glass in the rubber and the stainless installed int he rubber. My glass man said it was difficult to install the ss first and then the glass he said that was the only way to install the ss trim It was held into the rubber with masking take for the trip from the glasas shop to my shop
I have to disagree with your glassman. I've never been able to do it that way. I install the glass first and the about 3/4 of the SS trim, top adn both sides, leaving the bottom loose. It's the only way I could get it on the couple of times I had to install it.
