Hey All, I've just installed a 1966 289 (out of a 1966 Bronco says the guy I bought it from) in my old F100 which did have the smaller 6 from what I've been told. I'm not sure how to rig up a new throttle cable or which one to get. It looks like the 6 cylinder cable came right through the firewall straight to the carb, but the 289 sits about 4-6" to the driver's side of the engine bay. I'm not sure if the 352 V8 cable would work and would have the same offset or not. I'm tempted to buy a 14" Ford cable, but this wouldn't address the offset. Any ideas?
Pictures are worth a 1000 words. With the proper bracket almost anything can be made to work as long as your happy how it looks. I think the 352 cable will work fine, providing you have the right bracket.
Thanks guys. I read on another thread about using a steel rod to make the offset with a bend, and using heim joints for the ends. I'm not sure how the heim joints would hold onto the post unless a clip of some kind was used. I measured the distance from the firewall to the carb and its about 12" with about 2" inside the cab. That would be about 14" and I'm not sure what 20" of 352 cable would do. Thanks for the advice. You guys are awesome!
On my 65 with T18 (4spd) went to direct machanical linkage. Never had an issue since installing in 72. Perhap other members who have gone with the 289 swap will chime in with suggestions??
I have a 1966 f100 4x4 heavy duty suspension. I am the actual 3rd owner of this truck. It needs a lot of work but runs great. The drivetrain is in excellent condition. It has a 300 6 cyl 1 bl carb, I need a throttle cable. I would love to find a new one but not holding my breath. I am trying to find a universal kit that I can rig up until I can search some salvage yards I know of. Any one got a better suggestion on how to proceed?

If this is a factory 1966 F100 4x4 then the original part number would likely be
C5TZ-9A758-AE
There are none available new at this time that I can find online. I probably bought the last NOS one in existence some time ago. I'll look in the archives to see if I can find it.
If you search on the part number there are a few threads and one common recommendation is to try a Lokar kit.
I agree. The stock cable was 26.06" long and makes a smooth curve from firewall to carb hookup. The 6 cylinder with the 1bbl carb has a side-to-side throttle movement rather than the front to back movement of the 352 V-8 so it is quite a bit of a stretch over to it.
If you go to my post #133 in this thread you can see a picture of the NOS C5TZ-9A758-AE. At least gives an idea of what it should look like. My original still works fine, too, just some signs of age like yellowing on the plastic end near the carb.
