Okay- if you can't picture in your mind how the throttle cable mounts/functions in a 65 f100 w/ a 352 then this post may be a little confusing. On the cable itself, where it mounts to and goes thru the firewall it has to make a SEVERE bend. Cables that slide inside of a housing- do not like this at all. It comes out of the firewall directly behind the valve cover with very little, like about 1", of clearance. What kind of rocket scientist thought up this design? I recently replaced this cable from Mac's, who I found thru this site, so this tells me that it is indeed a factory setup. I had no problem a few months ago paying $52 for a quality n.o.s. part delivered to my house, and was thrilled to get it. However, I'm not so thrilled at the prospect of buying another one at this price every few months. Why did the stock one last so long, and why did the replacement not so long? It could not possibly have been the installation, a monkey could have done it. All I know is my beloved 65, my daily driver, now cannot be driven over a p!$$-poor design set-up. I apologize, I'm still steamed about the whole thing. Then, to add insult to injury, I've had to type this thing to all of you four times because the server has been to busy over the last couple of nights. Please someone shed a little sunshine here, I can't stand to drive my buddy's truck for too much longer, I miss my old reliable.
are you sure they didnt send you the 6 cyl cable by accident? that cable curves over to the right side of the engine bay- longer then the v8 cable! it seems to me the 6 cable on the v8 would make a pretty bad kink to connect to the v8 carb! just a thought, man. hope your 'toy' gets back on the road soon-good luck! -dave
Hasn't anyone else experienced this problem and found a way around it thru modification or a different set-up? I really want my truck back, and surely I'm not the only one who has went thru this!
Routing the throttle cable through the hole for the choke? I've been looking into this problem myself. The other option I see is raising the throttle cable one and a half inches and to the left (as you look at the firewall from the front bumper) one inch. I haven't triple checked how much of an angle will be from the pedal to the cable going into the firewall. I'll look into this some tomorrow. If you have any other ideas, please post them here in case mine suck
