Power steering fluid?
I've started noticing that my steering gets "sticky" I figured it was just getting low on fluid but when I popped the cap its full buts its a dark brown. I've seen red and clear.
Its not sticky all the time, just every now and then and only in some spots of turning.

You'll want to one way or another flush the old fluid out with new. I run Redline D4 ATF. But any good Mercon rated ATF will do. Synthetic is best IMHO. What I do is pump the old fluid out with a fluid transfer pump that is available at any auto parts store and replace the fluid with new. Do that every couple of weeks until your happy with the way the fluid looks. Then every other oil change pump out the old and add new. You'll never have to worry about it again.
If thats your steering issue time will tell.

I agree...I replaced a pump on a 97 last week. Then I used Mobil 1 synthetic as the new fluid. Took some time to pump out the old fluid while pouring in the new.

Use ATF as Pete said.
Synthetic is the best.
These pumps were designed for ATF, not PS fluid.
My pump was giving me problems a month or so bad. I just swapped out the bad fluid and it runs fine again. Was making my belt squeek.
I pull the belt and pop the lower hose off.
This is the scary way to do it, cause that lower nipple is plastic.
If you just put a new pump on, getting that hose off will be easy though.
I just pour in fluid to the pump and turn the pully by hand, it will eventually cycle it all out.
With the hose off, it will all fall into a bucket underneath too.

Sounds like I got some work to do today then. I was kinda thinking it needed flushed. Just didn't know if anyone had ever seen it turn brown.

Yeah, thats what it does. wear and tear inside.
keeping the fluid fresh will help it last longer.

Gotcha. Guess I need to do both trucks then. Don't guess I've ever been instructed to change the PS fluid. Headed to the store now

It's just a good thing to do.
If you wanna go overkill, you can always put an inline filter in the return line as well.

The only filter I can truely recommend adding on would be an oil bypass filter.
The rest of the filters are un-necessary and purely for guys who like filters.
Goes the same for those guys who like too many gauges.
