February BS thread!!
We got between a little over 6.5" of snow. I had to shovel the sidewalk before we left for surgery, then again when we got home.
Surgery went well. Everything was as expected, maybe even a little better. Doc said they normally see some minor additional damage in surrounding places but didn't see anything like that. Just the cartilage under the knee cap. She's got some good drugs. They started with Vicadin but that wasn't helping after the iv meds wore off. They switched to Tylenol with codeine.
Anyone besides Jay got any big plans for the weekend?
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
(Backstory: the center caps weren't deep enough to get over the rear axle to bolt to the rims)
I had ordered a pair of open center caps so that I could work the manual locking hubs.
When those finally arrived, I realized that those were about 5" deep and work on the rear, as well as the front. But, they are open and don't have the logo, exposing the end cap of the axle. Still, better than nothing, or the repainted American Racing caps I was thinking of using. So, I ordered a second pair.
I corresponded with the wheel company on Facebook.
Me: I recently purchased a set of black 18" Jesters for my 89 Ford F-350 4x4 pickup. The lugs are 8 x 6.5. The rear axle is a Sterling 10.25 and the front is a Dana 60 with manual locking hubs. The center caps that come with the Jesters are not deep enough for any of the axles. I had to order two sets of open caps. They are deep enough but, look wrong on the rear axle. Do you offer deep center caps that are not open? My dealer has had no luck locating this part, if it exists. If it does not exist, then your wheels are not suitable for a large portion of the market, when they could very easily be.
Response: Eric, we only have the open cap available for this option. Since Ford changed this axle configuration some time back, we've had virtually no demand for an extended cap for the rear Ford axles. If the demand were to present itself, we'd absolutely make a longer cap to accommodate the market needs. I wish we had a better answer for you Eric, but there is sadly very limited demand for this application.
Me: Okay, Another nice option would be to sell pop in end caps for the open ones. I removed the Ballistic emblems from my short closed ones and am going to affix them to centers somehow. Maybe directly to the axle. I haven't worked that out yet. But, if there were a pop in cap, that'd be nice.
Them: Let us know if you'd like us to send you a few extra logo decals. Not sure if that will help you, but we are happy to do so!
Me: That'd be great. I discolored some of the ones I removed and was figuring on having to touch them up. With new decals, I think I can make discs to fit inside the center caps, from behind.
Them: We will get a care package headed your way Eric! Thanks again and have a great weekend!
So, while this isn't perfect, I think I'll be happy with the rims. I'll probably switch out the goofy looking adornments on the outer parts of the rims too. But, anything can be bolted in there, or nothing.
I think that they are ignoring a sizable part of the market because most people with the older trucks don't go with that style rim. But, there are tons of trucks out there with the same rear axle. Maybe some of them don't buy that style rim because the center caps aren't available. Also, the parent company makes the same center caps for multiple brands. They just change out the logo in the center.

I'm not sure if I'll use those, or any inserts. And the studs on the outer rim are what I'm thinking of modifying. Probably just have socket head cap screws. Maybe Stainless. Also, I'm thinking of checking around to have stainless inserts cut. Possibly chromed.

Too bad it is cold in the garage.
