Alright I currently own a 2010 jeep wrangler with a ton of mods and only 13k miles. I have found a nice 2007 f250 crew cab with 57k miles. The truck has an 8 inch lift, 37x13.5x20 toyo m/ts, and he recently threw on a chip last week. I have heard there have been problems with the 6.0s and do not know much about diesel trucks. The truck looks great inside and out. I just do not have the funds to fall in to a diesel truck with a lot of problems due to the maintenance costs. Any help would be appreciated.

chips are not cheap, why install one and then sell truck??

 

No, he owns 2 other for diesels and claims he takes very good care of them. He only threw it on last week and I doubt he pushes it too hard with the chip.

 

I would not buy any 6.0 that a a chip and not studs

Blown head gaskets will cost you about$3500

 

You tune a 6.0, not "chip" it. You "chip" a 7.3 diesel, you upload custom programs to the 6.0 PCM or FICM.

Find a bone stock 6.0 and not one that has been modded.

Run away. A tuned 6.0 and an 8 inch lift would make me do a full 180* spin.

Find yourself a nice stock 6.0 with all service records and do whatever you want to it.

Also go visit the 6.0 section and read up on the 6.0's. It is an engine that wants to be maintained.

there is a tech folder. There are some very good things
to read about the 6.0 Some Do and Do Nots.
Read the info and then post you questions and someone will help.
One thing to look for is one that has been maintained and it's always
to see the records if you can. One more thing is get a SGII ScanGaugeII : Linear Logic - Home of the ScanGauge
to take on the test drive. Try to do the test drive with a
truck that has sat over night and is cold then your going to want
to go for about a 2 hour test drive and do a hot engine start and
see how it does.

I think is you search for buying a used 6.0L you should find some good
things to look for.

NOTE : On lifted trucks does not mater if it a diesel or what ever. Your going to
looking at a lot of stress to the front end. The engine may be %100 and the front end hosed.

 

How much would upgrading the studs cost me?

 

That would depend on who is doing the work.
Your going to heed a set of head gaskets (get the Ford ones)
and a stud set. Do it your self and save a lot of $$$$.
Go one over to the 6.0 forum and search the cost I am sure
that someone has asked this same question.

$3k-ish in parts to do it correctly yourself, potentially a few $k for replacement heads if they're really warped or cracked, your time, tools if you don't have some of the odd ones. Figure in 20-40 hours of time at shop rate if you get it done, at a dealer/real shop and not the shadetree oil dumper on the corner.

 

I wouldn't touch a 6 leaker no matter how good a deal it is unless I was the shop forman at a Ford dealer.
