C6 vs. AOD

I currently have a '56 ford crewcab 3 door Cabover with a 1980 460/C6 combination mounted on a 1980 E-350 motor home frame. I also have a wrecked '88 ford F-450 with fuel inj. 460 and AOD. My question is, what kinds of problems would I have replacing the C6 with the AOD to achieve a better top speed. I considered replacing entire engine tranny package but I'm not sure of horsepower of F. I. package. Also fuel milage. Early 460 gets about 7 MPG with 4.10 rear gears. I use this truck to pull my 28' toyhauler and car trailer. COE weighs aprox. 7000 pounds empty. Existing 460 has a mild repower.

It's not an AOD. It is an E4OD. There is a BIG difference between the two.

If you keep the current engine you'll need a controller to operate the trans. It's electronic. Without the controller the trans will only operate in reverse and 4th gear.

If you swap the entire powertrain you'll need to also swap in the complete wiring harness and computer. You might also need to change the rear axle to one with a speed sensor.

Finally, are you certain the '88 is an overdrive transmission? I thought only the diesel had the overdrive in '88, but that was a long time ago and my memory could be faulty. If it is an overdrive trans there will be a wiring harness that plugs into the trans on the passenger's side. Non-overdrive (C6) doesn't have this.
