David,

!8 AWG is OK. I just don't want 24 or 26 AWG, because my solder connections will break too easily.
Is that a Foil Shield? The wire on Ebay has a Braided shield. That will be easier to work with.
I have a $20.00 Ebay promotional credit, that expires the end of the month. I don't need anything else right now, so I might as well use the credit.

Thanks for your offer.

The 14 AWG Twisted Pair cable should be here by Monday 6/23. 14 AWG is a little heavier than I need, but it should be easy to splice to my connectors.

The twisted pair wire came today. Sat. 6/21/14. I spliced the transmission connector onto the new cable. It's MIL Spec cable. It's really tough stuff.

I couldn't upload a picture.

I promised someone that I would go fishing tomorrow, but as soon as I get home, I'll fish the cable through the firewall and connect it to the trans. If I don't get it all wired tomorrow, I'll finish and test it on Monday.

Sorry for the hit and run.. Wife's new knee and anniversary duties called..

Danlee, I looked at the SuperPro board you're using (assuming I found the right one). Pretty nice board. Lots of capability. Quick question.. about the differential receiver you're using.. are you using on-board I/O or are you using a dedicated differential receiver part? I'm assuming you're using the truck wiring harness signals for the VSS? since you're getting spurious interrupts without the truck running (should be a pretty quiet electrical environment). The experiment with a dedicated signal is good. A couple of things I'd be concerned about is the interaction of the VSS with the existing control system. I don't recall what year your truck is but if it has a VSS it must be ECU controlled? If so, depending on exactly how you have it connected currently, the ECU "MAY" be trying to actively control the VSS... i.e. I'm not sure if the current ECU is passive. There's a good chance that assuming that the ECU at the very least is supplying power to the VSS, the power it is providing may have switching noise on it. Do you have an oscilloscope to look at the signal coming from the VSS? I would offer to check on my truck but it's too early a model to have a VSS.

So depending on exactly how you have the VSS wired into your board, there may be a couple of more things you could do to alleviate the noise issue.

Oh, one other thing.. Did you ever determine if the EPC can be PWM / Voltage controlled or did you pursue that any more?

I never determined that it could or couldn't be PWM, since my controller does Current control with the onboard DAC, an OpAmp, and a transistor.

My truck is carb'ed and does not have an ECU. The VSS is only used for the Trans Control. I am using a dedicated Differential Receiver, but the VSS wiring is only a factory harness for part of the run. I am going to bypass all of the existing VSS wiring with the new cable.

I installed the new VSS cable, and also extended the other wires in the truck cab, so I can get better routing for a permanent install of the trans controller.
I had some problems with the crimps on some of the connector pins, and I got Solenoid 1, and Solenoid 2 swapped trying to fix the pins.
I had some spurious interrupts, but one of the VSS cable pins was not seated in the connector. I'll try to get all these problems fixed tomorrow. I ordered some crimped pins with pigtail wires. They should be here Saturday. If I don't have it all straightened out by then, I'll start over with a new connector & the premade crimped pins.

Would you mind sharing which differential receiver part you're using?

It's a Maxim MAX9924. It's available from Mouser. I know someone else who is using it for a speed sensor, without any problems.
