Been a quiet past couple of days, got a few things done. Been recovering from some kind of sickness, so I've been trying to take it easy. But whatever, Since I stripped the frame down, I needed to reseal/coat the frame. I used POR-15(freaking $50 a quart!) to seal it. Still have to coat it even more. This stuff will not come off your hands easily also btw
Then today, I drove 2 hours away to the u-pull-it yard. Got a bunch of original goodies! Didn't see one tachometer though, almost every truck there was stick w/the blank plate.
Original radio and bezel. It might not work, I have to test it again tomorow. Anyone know how to repair these?
LOL! Been there, worn that with the POR-15. That's why they suggest gloves. And, btw, I hope you took them at their word and didn't put the lid directly back on the can, but put waxed paper or cling film between the lid and the can. Otherwise you just permanently glued the lid to the can.
I hope your radio works better than mine. It comes on but is mostly the right channel. And, it tunes itself. Never stops tuning itself. Ever. So, if you find out how or whom can fix them please let me know.

Haha yeah, I learned why! Had it on my face, neck, and hands. I sure wore gloves after that! And I simply just cleaned the ridges in the can with a rag and screwdriver. Opens fine.
As for the radio, I'm pretty sure it's blown. I'll try to find another, but if worst comes to worst, I'll try to track down the problem on the pc board inside it.
If you are good on those radios I might bring mine to you. Actually, I'll be 30 miles or so away in Hockessin, DE in late Feb. And, since my wife wants to go to the quilt shop in Intercourse and the outlet mall in Lancaster we'll be even closer. So, if you can fix it......
Btw, I saw a blurb on TV about the mafia you mentioned. Hadn't ever heard of that before you mentioned it.
Haven't had much experience on these older units but I'm going to give mine a shot at least. I've worked on quite a few newer Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep radios while working at the dealership, and took a class on electronics, so I have a slight idea of what to do. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
As for the mafia thing, dumbest thing I've ever seen in the 15 years I lived here.
I have a question for yall. Will the rear bumpers that are on the regular beds of 80 - 86 trucks fit my stepside? I'm talking about the heavy, no chrome ones(gray in color I believe). Would they be too wide as is?
So I've been kind of neglecting this thread I guess. Been busy with the truck and haven't had any time to post. The trucks body work is almost done, gotta shoot some primer in the booth instead of the spray can stuff. But, that's not the only thing going on... Got a couple of go fast goodies that led to a complete top-end rebuild. Goal was to pull the old intake manifold off, pull timing chain, drop a cam in it, and put the new intake manifold and carb on. While I had the motor basically stripped, I noticed for me to do what I want correctly, I'd need to have a valve job done. My truck did smoke a little before, and I found the problem. Taking the heads to the machine shop tomorow. But anyway, I cut all the unnessary crap off the motor, since my new manifold is non-EGR. Not worried about emissions, I run a dealer plate. I'll post pics in separate post.
This is the only picture I have at the moment. My dad was helping me by doing the body work while I worked on the motor. I'll take pictures of everything tomorow with my camera instead of my phone. But anyway, it's getting there
Here'a the pics I forgot to take before.
Some of the stuff I'll be putting on: Cam, intake manifold, 600 CFM carb, timing chain, shift kit. Still have to get some new rocker arms for my new cam. All my pulleys, brackets, ect I'm painting ford blue. I always pre-heat parts under the heat lamp before I paint it, and leave it during and after. I think the paint bonds better, and has a better finish.
For anyone wondering, here is my new cam specs. Found out the truck already had a aftermarket cam in it, but in with the new. She'll definately be lopey.
Here's a little body work: Finally got these spots done. What a pain!
How she sits now. Heads should be back tomorow, can't wait to fire her up after I get done!
