Have a great day guys! Off to the shop to put the last few parts in the hot tank, and paint some more parts today. Tomorrow the supplies will be in for the next house remodel so Harley and I will start that work. Won't be able to do much on the lathe till Sat or Sun........sigh...
Good evening all. Made it back from the lake. About had a heart attack Monday night when I got up there.
I had noticed that the clearance light on the left fender of the boat had quit working around 10 to 15 miles from the lake. When I disconnected the boat trailer, I noticed part of the fender was curled outward and there were some black scrapes on rub marks on the back of the fender. Looking closer it appeared that some, like about a 1/4, of the tread had peeled off the of tire. How I ever made it without a blow out I will never understand.
So tomorrow, I will be off looking for 2 new 15 D or E rated radial trailer tires and the rims to go with them. It has 16.5's D rated right now and I'm not sure why. Had the 16.5's on it when I got it and had just never changed them out. The spare was a brand new 15 D rated radial that I stopped and checked a number of times on the way home. It seemed to be running much cooler than the 16.5 on the other side.
Anyway, it was a good trip. Went up the hill a bit and cut some firewood for the camp fire, took the boat out for a spin, caught some fish and came back to camp, leaned back in our Cabela's reclining camp chairs and waisted a good portion of 2 days discussing what we wanted to do next, which actually never got decided nor done.
Evening Pat, and welcome back! Not good with the tire, but could have been much worse......
I responded to a call on I-84 when I had my shop in arlington for a blown tire. Turned out it was a 32' Bayliner on a triple axel trailer and the middle tire came apart at about 65. Not pretty.....When it went it took another tire with it and tore a hole about 8" X 4 FEET in the hull, and took out two axels. It sat for a week at my shop waiting for parts. The owners had to stay in the local motel till I got it fixed......
I lost a front axle tire on my previous travel trailer. Took out the wheel well, the dining floor, the slide out, the other tire, and the hotwater heater. Needless to say the whole inside smelled like bleach/ slick smoke at the race track. She was a total loss.

Just wait till you see the pics of it all together! I love this red to, a lot!
I took your tip and bought gray for the lettering. I think it will look great. I want to get one of my buddys over here for some work he's been wanting me to do. His passion is pinstriping. I think I'll trade some welding for some gray pinstriping on the lathe.......

You were lucky my friend!
Yep, darned lucky. (Had that happen on my 78 F250 Ranger - $1800 later.......) I know the tires are several years old, but visually they looked good, no checkering or weather cracks and the tread looked almost as if they were brand new. They had lost the casting spurs, but the tread was good, deep and smooth.
Yep, got lucky. Like I said, I wanted to replace the 16.5's with 15's. Now I have a good excuse. I think I can safely and without hesitation say that at least one of those tires is worn out!
I had a inside dual tire come apart on my Class C, it came about 1/4" from ripping out the propane supply line to the furnace, tore the living chit out of the wheel well, and of course, the spare was no good.............20 miles from anything.
