I had a paper route also! Just didn't include it..........
I started working for a chicken farmer when I was 14, and learned how nice it was to have cash, when all my buddys had nothing. I guess it stuck with me......lol

Working young is what needs to happen. I know way too many kids who have never held a job in their life. I started in a cherry orchard drivin tractor at 13 and worked in my dad's shop before that. I definitely credit all that work for why I'm at an internship exactly where I want to be right now.
I started working at two weeks of age in a driving winter time rain storm (or so my mother says) when my mother had to take me with her on the horse to round up cattle that had broken through a fence. I'm sure my help was invaluable. By the age of 6 I was "working the girls" by riding "supposedly" run away horses so the girls could chase me down and "rescue" me....................................
It was nice being able to work for my dad. I bought my first car at 14 (a very ragged 69 Z/28), and spent two years getting it ready for me to drive. Bonus was, dad was paying me 5 buck an hour, which was well above minum wage at that time.

What do you do? I taught my stepsons early. They started a mowing business that they can barely keep up with, they're so busy!

BINGO! We have a winner! I've got friends that are still supporting their 30 something kids. Both my kids worked when they were young. When they wanted a car, they were told to earn the money cause I'm not gonna buy them one. Both did, and are productive people now.
Kids have it waaaay to easy now, and want everything given to them. Not gonna happen around here!
