Adding 1" carburetor spacer question ?

I been having a problem on my 390 with a 2bbl carb, the gas boils up in the carb wen I turn it off, any ways I have Seen here that the solution for this is to add a spacer between intake and carb,
My question is do I remove the aluminum spacer which water flows thru and replace it with the 1", or do I stack it on top of the existing one,
If that is so,I am having a hard time finding 3" or 3 1/2" studs. and if I have to remove the aluminum spacer, where is the gain, don't I add the spacer to get it higher from the intake to prevent heat from boiling the fuel in the carb, please help I am confused.
Thanks once again.

The OEM spacer (with coolant pass-thru) is there to prevent carburetor icing in cold weather. You can delete it if that is not an issue not likely to occur in your area. Re-route that coolant hose to a T in the heater core return line or change the fitting on the intake manifold to delete the port. Install the 1-inch Trans-Dapt spacer per instructions.

Lastly, consider addressing the high underhood temps by installing heat shield under the carb, insulating the fuel lines, or.... going with an electric fuel pump, a bypass regulator, and a fuel return line so that the carb is always receiving cool(er) fuel.

Same to ya.

That honey hole is a gold mine... he's got a few bumpsides in the yard too along with a two Mustangs, early Mavericks, two early Econolines, a zillion early Broncos, and at least five Dentside crewcabs. I dang near whipped out my checkbook for a 67 shortbed and a 69 flareside but alas, I have nowhere to park it.

Post Heat shield and spacer

The heat shield can go in one of two places. I might suggest you keep the hot-water spacer. You can block or put a valve in the hose to the spacer for summer. If you do this, you can put a simple heat shield UNDER the spacer. Use multiple gaskets, of course. If you use the plastic spacer, it goes under the heatshield.

You might check for interference with other things like the linkage and things. I made a big shield out of 1/16th aluminum, turned up the edges, and cut a slot for the linkage. Keep the separation between the two holes.

It worked great in Las Vegas at 111 degrees. I tested the temps above and below the shield with a remote thermometer. Lost the data, but it sure made a difference. Polished stainless would be better, but it does get grungy fast.

With this technique, you can keep the anti-icing and warm-up benefits of the hot-water spacer. You might need the effect at temps as high as 53 degrees in high relative-humidity conditions, according to an engineering report I read.

Keep the silicone seal away from the inside of the gasket surface. I put it on the outside only, and it bulges out.

I fought the same issue and tried different spacers. I finally went to a Hollet 2 bbl. and cured the problem

Hey guys sorry for the time off,I am ready to install my carb spacer, but here is my thoughts on how to put it together,

1- leave the carb spacer where coolant runs thru.
2-add the black 1"in spacer on top. (shown in picture below)
of course with gaskets in between each spacer, intake & carb.
3-Install carburetor.
Now I know that some of you guys suggested taking off the coolant spacer or add heat shield, but I have herd that adding height to the carb= more HP which to me that is a plus, besides solving the boiling fuel problem. Now I got the spacers at the JY that is why I don't have the longer studs to install the two spacers and carb.Longest stud I could find was 3"in not long enough, so I made my owen bought 4 bolts 3 3/4" L x 5/16" Dia cut the heads off and used a die to cut threads. fine one side course on the other, here are some pictures of the ordeal, please let me know if it is true about the extra HP.I will post some pics wen its done.
Thanks again.
