Is Carb spacer needed?

On my new 300 I'm putting an offy dp intake with an autolite 4100. I have routed the coolant lines through the inlet on the bottom of the manifold. Do I need a spacer between offy and carb?

If so, is it better to get one with coolant circulation?

Head room is not an issue.

Thanks.

Only reason you would need one is if you're linkage needed the extra room. Some would say the extra space gives your fuel/air a little more room-time to mix but it isn't critical.

The main reason people run spacers is to increase the effective intake runner length. There are a lot of arguments and opinions about what this actually accomplishes. I have an Offy DP intake and I'm not using a spacer. Which inlet are you talking about, the wide open one on the bottom?

Look down the throttle bores of the DP and you will see that they are quite long. I original went with a spread bore adapter for the carb plus a spacer. Turned out to be totally redundant as far as SOP performance goes. I mounted my current carb right on the manifold and use a tall air cleaner spacer. I had tried a spacer under this carb but I think I may have had a little icing problem until it was completely warmed up. Don't have that problem now. I think the spacer caused a bit of delay in the carb warming up with heat from the manifold. No scientific proof of this, just experiential perception.
