No start
Hello everyone. I am helping a friend with a 2004 F350 auto 4X4.
I pulled the codes 0401, 2614 and 2617.
I read that the 2614 and 2617 codes wil show up during a no start situation so I am asking if the CPS is the likely problem as it is on the 7.3?
This all started with water in fuel light and I have replaced both filters. The truck started after I replaced them and seemed to run ok but the next morning it would not start. I plugged the block heater in just in case the glow plugs were having problems.
The engine cranks fast and attempts to fire but never starts.

So you said it's a 04,,, but then referenced a 7.3. If it is an 04, 6.0,,, then I would ask if the tach jumps while cranking??

Yes it is the 6.0. The tack does indeed move.

I'm not quick with the dtc numbers. I can't remember which one is bad if the tach moves. Either cam or crank sensor. Maybe someone will chime in here. Was any of the codes related to cam or crank?? Cps is cam, I think cks is crank.

Doubt both sensors went at the same time. Likely codes were triggered from the no-start.
Did you drive the truck after replacing the filters? Maybe sucking air on the bottom housing?

Ok,,, it's cmp for cam,,, and ckp for crank. You are getting both codes,,, it would be unusual for them both to go out at the same time.

Yes I drove the truck and pulled the plugs on both filters many times due to the water in fuel light coming on during each test drive.
I felt as though the problem was fixed after the last test drive last night (water in fuel) and then this no start happened this morning.

Do you remember if all the codes came at the same time. I remember last time I lost the crank sensor,, I got a crank sensor code first, then the cam sensor code followed after one long no start.

I only pulled the codes once and this was the order: 0401, 2614 and 2617.

Unplug the EBP sensor and see if it starts.
I would also pull the EGR valve just to see if it is carboned up.
The cam sensor code is possibly from excessive cranking

Does the truck have an egr delete??
Hey Mark,,, can a long no start also trip a crank sensor??
Also, doesn't the tach only get info from either the cam or crank sensor?? Not both???

I believe so.

Cheezit has said it comes from the Cam sensor. The WSM (workshop manual) states differently. I will have to say I am not 100% sure.

My money is on either one or more of the following issues present:
-Badly carboned up EGR valve causing it to stick open, and hence a hard/no-start.
-Weak/faulty injector(s).
-Low/weak/no fuel pressure.

I am cleaning the EGR valve right now. It was not stuck open though. Is there a place to test the fuel pressure or do i need to install a gauge?
