i need to pull the motor out of my truck today and all my help has ran off on me. (dad and brother) so i was wondering if you guys could help me on pulling a 390 out of my 74 f250 4x4 4 speed. i need to know where to start and if the grill needs to be removed. only the motor is coming out not trans. tips on remembering where wires go to and such. grandpa is still helping but he is not in the greatest shape so he will probably sleep most of the time. plz and thanks.
I allways pull the front off but then I'm doing other things to it at the same time. It would be a lot of help if you had a transmission jack to keep the trany up, if not you may have to secure it some how. I believe you only need to remove the radiator and fan blade to get the room. I would suggest as you disconnect the wires ,ect , put some masking tape on them and mark where they go. It's easy to get them mixed up and saves a lot of time ,problems later.I use small containers, cans, jars, what ever and keep all of the fasteners in, not just dump them all in the same container. Then you don't have to dig though them trying to find the right ones you need. Mark the containers so you know where the fasteners go that are in that container.Hope that helps ,others may want to add to that.
Just go to bing.com type how do i remove my engine. be safe!
Why even waste the time posting this?
To the OP. If you're using an engine hoist you may not be able to get the engine high enough to clear the radiator support so it will be nesesary to remove it. Especially if your truck has a lift.
If your lifting it from an overhead lift or chain fall to a rafter you may not need to mess with it.
The front clip comes off very easily except for the afore-mentioned radiator support bolts.
Mark everything! A trick I use is every bolt you take out, put back in the holes they came from, wherever possible. For example, take the alternator off and put the long bolt back through pivot mount and thread the adjuster bolt back into alternator where it came from. That way, when you go to put it back together, you know exactly which bolt went in which hole. Nothing is more intimidating than staring at a coffee can full of bolts and wondering where they went.

Label everything you remove or disconnect.
Just be safe, having a lack of knowledge can get you killed or badly hurt.
Roof trusses are designed to support a structure's roof solidly while using the least amount of material possible, which decreases the labor and material costs associated with the roof's construction. Because trusses are designed to carry a specific weight load in a specific way, not much can be added to their weight load without sacrificing safety and their stability.
