working on the 500 dollar highboy again today. went to the local boneyard and found a steering wheel in alot better shape than what i have now. but of course its out of a newer model truck and now my horn dont work. i figured this would happen. any tips or tricks to get it back to working with out some goofy button on the dash thanks.
I have a 79 steering wheel on my 73 and had to install two jumper wires - one over the vibration isolator and then another jumper wire over the rag joint since I retrofitted my rig with integral PS.
Looks like you have a 74 if it's the avatar picture. If so the 78/79 will be a bolt in and i believe the wheel will fit with horn and signals working. I put a 79 column in my 73 2 w/d just to get the smaller wheel plus it was a tilt and in better condition than the 73 one was. I think you can do the 4x4 the same way if you use one from a later 4x4 or bronco.
EDIT== I have never owned a 4x4 / 250 , so it may not work.
ok rag joint no problem. where is the vibration isolator?
If it is present on highboys, the steering shaft has a collapsible slip joint. It's between the column and the steering box. It's there to compensate for the cab's movement.
