Ok sorry I can't take it any longer. Sitting a battery on the ground does not "ground" it. As a matter of fact, sitting a battery on the ground, vs. on a shelf, makes no difference on how long the battery will last. I don't care if it's concrete, wood, linoleum, carpet, or dirt!
If that optima battery died after sitting in a car in the cold for a few days, it was probably due to either a defective battery, or an unknown parasitic load, such as leaving a phone charger in the cig. lighter socket. Running any battery completely dead (i.e. to zero volts) will ruin it... even the best deep-cycles can't take an absolute discharge more than once or twice.
Another thumbs up for the Die Hard Platinums. I had a battery die in my '08 shortly after buying it. I replaced both batteries with the Die Hards and have not had an issue. Just because I'm curious about longevity, when I bought the 2011 I had Ford take out the factory batteries and put in my old Die Hards. They are still running strong.

I did the same thing when I traded in my 6.4 for the 6.7!!
