Batteries

I'm going to replace my batteries, my 750 CCA optimas aren't going to cut it this winter. Definitely not going the optima route (they were in the truck when I bought it). They load tested good but they cant be putting out the amperage they should, 30 degrees out they are barely getting the job done. Who makes a good battery? Is there really any reason to buy deep cycle? Not a topic Ive ever heard much on. Looking to get 2 1000 CCA batteries.

Most I see in gassers are the Interstate's. I got the one's from walmart though. After a year they seem to be doing good.

No reason to get deep cycles really. Your connections might just need a good cleaning if the batteries dont seem to be putting out as good as they should. That said ive had good luck with trailblazer, and autocraft batteries.

Seach 'Batteries' in this (or any other) section and you can read everyone's opinion.

Most are about the same. I only threw Interstates in mine because that's what it already had before. They survived some major neglect from the PO and abuse from me. Didn't replace them till they pissed all the fluid out the tops and were dead every morning. Haven't had an issue with the new ones, but everyone has different experiences, and you get what you pay for.

I searched wasn't anything here or in power stroke section so I made a thread. Really just didn't know if a diesel needed anything special, didn't wanna feel good about having new parts then find out I didn't get what I needed.... Like my parts house thermostat that I get to yank this weekend

My truck has only had Interstate in it since the first time they needed replacement. They are about 4 years old and still work great. I can leave the truck sit for a month and it still starts like a champ.

Battery's just need to be strong (alot!) CCA's. I got 2 durlast 1000 cca's in my truck. Each was like $105.. but lifetime warranty and it fires the truck off mighty fast.

you really need a matched set.-so iv read here.no first hand experience otherwise,so i can't argue it lol.

they also need to be at least 850cca rating.-same as above lol.

the previous owner put two of these in just before i bought it:

Dual Autocraft Titanium Batteries (Made By Johnson Controls) - 1000CA@32°/850CCA@0°/150A RC #65-2

you'll find when researching batteries, that's there only a couple makers who make a slug of 'em for different brands. Johnson Controls being one of the large makers."die hard" for example, along with a very long list of other popular ones.including
ManicMike's "duralast/auto zone" bats noted above.

Those Duralast Gold batteries are actually 850 CCA and 1000 CA, I just had two of them installed in my truck because while I hoped the Autolites that were in it would last the winter that was a very wishful thinking on my part and earlier this week they let me down and would not crank the truck after the glowplugs were done doing what they do. Now I'm reading on the other diesel site that I could have possibly used big-rig batteries, and those are 950 CCA each, but oh well, what's done is done

Don't go deep cycle... they are designed to give off constant low amps rather than sudden high amps needed for our starters. You'll get better cranking for your money on a car battery.

I've been usign Motomaster (Canadian) for years, not cause they last, but cause they replace them for 3 years no questions asked... I was thinking of switching to Optima but now it sounds not so great.

I've heard great things about Costco batteries. $75ea and they'll take your old batteries.

When you have 2 battery's hooked together like in our trucks they are only as strong as the weakest of the 2. The weakest battery will always draw the stronger battery down to it's level.
