Hi all,
What brand/store is best for batteries these days? I need new ones. I am currently running on one old one and a deep cycle boat battery.
Thanks
Go to Walmart and get their 850CCA batteries. They are the cheapest, have a nice warranty and good probability thatno matter where you are, you can find a walmart close by if you have an issue. I personally went with Interstate Batteries that are 850CCa's but I paid $240-ish for 2 of them, where-as a similar set from walmart will be $150-ish.
When buying a battery, BUT THE WARRANTY! All batteries are the same. Last year I went and splooged 4 bones for Optima's and read on here a hundred times how people w/ Optima's were exchanging them after 2-3 yrs.
Buy the warranty, wally world, Auto Zoo or Sam's... .02
When I replaced my wife's batteries, I went to Ford and got a set of Motorcraft. They're priced about the same as everyone else (surprisingly) and have a 100 month pro-rated warranty. I don't remember the length of the replacement warranty.
I have read how all batteries are made at just a handful of places, but I also know how many years my original Motorcraft batteries lasted, and how soon the replacement batteries went belly up. There's still plenty of Ford dealerships around across the country to honor the warranty too.

Where'd you get them bad boys at? I think the red tops at Sam's Club are around $135 each. I'm looking at red tops to mount both on the pass side. That way I've got more air around my Tymar filter. I've heard good and bad about the Optimas, so I'm still undecided.
The ones in my pickup now are Motorcraft's and like Chris said, they hold up well. They were in the pickup when I bought it over 2 years ago and have been run completely down several times due to a bad alternator last fall. Trickle charged and have been charging just fine since!
When I had to replace my batteries I shopped around quite abit. i always liked interstes, but they were expensive. Exide were cheap, but I didnt like the place where I could get them from. Our walmarts up here had eveready (no motorcraft) and I wasnt sure about them.
I ended up trying napa batteries. They were the highest cca that I could find (880) that would fit with no modification, came with a 2 year warranty compared to most others 3 year, but i really like the local napa so i thought i would give them a shot.
Ask me in two years how they hold up though haha.
On Edit: I forgot to mention the dealer! I went to the dealer priced out batteries, and they wanted the same amount of cash for one motorcraft, as both the napa batteries I bought. For that knda cash i figure I could replace batteries more often, and still have a few bucks in my pocket of the dealers price.
Warranties are nice, but I'd prefer to have a good battery that won't leave me stranded. Sure anything can happen, but I've not had good luck with Wal-mart batteries at all. They are easy to take back and warranty, but it sure does suck having to do it often! I vote for the Motorcrafts. And no, all batteries are not the same.... The Walmart batteries I have are now serving duty on my camper instead; not reliable enough for me. I got a coupon off from my dealer for either $10 or $20 off each battery, and it put them in the $100/ea range.
Per consumerreports.con the batteries that they tested and recommended were costco kirkland signature 12866 900 cca group65 $75 or the Walmart Everstart Maxx 65n 850 cca group 65 $75 hope this helps

When I looked the Costco batts and the Walmart batts had exactly the same CA/CCA, FWIW.
Ive only had 2 sets of batteries in my truck in nearly 10 years. Original Motorcrafts and AZ Golds. The motorcrafts were great but not so great at the price my dealer wanted for them. Never had a problem with either of them except when the MCs finally crapped out.
Yup, asked the same question myself a couple of times and got same answers. I decided to stick with what had worked best for me in the past and went with Autozone's 65-DLG's, the gold top version of what I had a few years ago.
