I'm slowly building the truck I wanted back when I was 16 years old. I'm close to starting on getting the body work started. Up to this point I've done all the mechanical work myself but body work is going to be hired out. So yesterday I load up my cab and take it to my body man. I know the floor and cab corners are shot but I wanted to know how many nickel and dimes I'll have to come up with. Long story short he tells me to find a new cab that I'll be way money ahead. So now the hunt begins!!
Is there anything I need to look for specific or all the cabs made the same?
I'm replacing a '79 f250 manual non air cab. Although I got another parts truck with air but it's a extended cab so that's not an option. I may add air to this one with the parts off the extended cab.
If you want to add A/C then look for a factory A/C cab, it'll save you having to cut the (big) hole in the firewall.
Is your truck 4WD? mid-77 and earlier F250 4WD cabs had narrower frames so the rear mount holes need to be redrilled.
Also, on earlier cabs, shoulder harnesses weren't standard equipment and chances are the cab won't have the mounting points for them, these aren't easy to add either.
Some cabs don't have the removeable trans tunnel cover, although these are easy to add, the cut lines are already marked.
Hey nickle and dime I have a single cab that came off of a 79 F 350 that cab is in good shape the floor pans however need replaced I can go take a picture if your interested oh and this cab also has the factory a/c unit under the dash Cab was 4C4 with automatic
Yes Mike it is a 4x4. So it sounds like I want to look for a 78-79 cab. I was wandering if the cab was different for the manual and auto trans or are all the cabs set up the same so you can bolt up the clutch and brake assembles.

The clutch and brake pedal assy will bolt up, an auto cab will have a rubber plug where the clutch rod goes through. Some auto and some 3 spd. manual 2WD cabs don't have the removeable trans tunnel. It's easy to cut ot the floor pan and add your trans tunnel cover.
Here are a couple of pictures of a solid floor without the removeable trans tunnel.
