1979 crew cab roof

Hello folks,

I am slowly winning the battle with my rusty, crusty crewcab roof.

The front section is from a supercab, and the rear section is a regular cab. One problem I ran into was the super cab roof is taller (from the drip rail to the beginning of the curve of the top of the roof).. The super height is about 2 inches, and the reg cab is a bit over 1 1/2 inches.

What I did to compensate was to cut the reg cab roof on the sides, and then I added some metal to jack it up. Not the full 1/2 inch, I will get measurements when its all tried and true. The very back I am going to leave the same, becuz of the window opening.

Right now I have a few sheet metal screws in things holding it all together. Also, With a few clamps. Next week I plan on making sure all is ok. Then, I will dissasemble and I am going to take off the drip rails and sandblast them. To hard to try to clean them up on the truck. (at least if they come off fairly easy).

The other thing I did was use the main cross support from the supercab. I am going to have at least 2, instead of the factory one. That is just sheet metal screwed temporarily.

I finally got the super cab and the reg cab cut and welded to my crew cab. So far so good. Will start the body work on in the next week or so. Before I put roof back on, I totally cleaned up all the bracings and doo dadds and supports with POR-15.

It can be done, just a few cuss words and a bloody nuckle or 2.
