Noticed the fuseable link very smooth on the out side and from what I read they melt slightly when they blow.

You say the wire is open with a VOM set on ohm's? Check on each side of the fuse (Around it) to see if it passes current/reads little ohm's or is open reading infinite ohms. If it is good seal your test spots back up.

Checked each side of fuseable link and found it ok. Cut back the heat shrink where the wires join to find this. Made in Mexico.

Yup corrosion is such a killer in wire harnesses and fuse boxes. Good find. I would start another thread to identify this and post the picture. No one suspects this of happening until they see it real. I can't imagine how much people spend/suffer from these problems in older salt states. This happens to all equipment, wipes out complete wire harnesses. Thanks for the pictures. LOL

I ran another new wire from the rear of the alternator to the big link (is that what you calld it?) due to corrosion on my V-10 204,500 mile Ex. I'm guessing it's a fairly common problem.
