I was looking at my shocks and they looked kinda old but the truck rode pretty good so I decided to treat the Ex to some new ones. Monroe-matics! Not very exiting really but they were only $96 delivered for all four and now my truck is more stable in the bumps and dips plus I still have my soccermom ride. The old shocks turned out to be originals with 162k miles on them but not noticeably shot. I'm very happy with these shocks and the truck couldn't ride any better.
I started to put them in and it was a little tight so I decided to switch over to my studded winter wheels a little early and I'm glad I did. If you put new ones in it might be easier to remove the wheels first. They were pretty easy to install without the wheels and the resistance in them was the biggest problem. Shocks weren't springy like that years ago but they weren't gas charged either.

Good info... in, what seems to be, the never ending updating of my Excursion... got it from the body shop and notice it was looking at me ****-eyed. Front Drivers side sitting lower than the other corners.. I figure it's time for some shocks since the previous owner could not remember changing them either. I was just about to shop shocks! I wish I coulda waited for the Rancho rebate that happens every March or whatever. I guess you got them directly from Monroe?

No I got them from Amazon for about $24 each with free shipping.
Shocks don't effect ride height
Likely a spring. Maybe a large driver
Previous owner. Or bent from prior
accident. Good luck.
Well unless I'm crazy.. this just happened recently. I'm a bigger dude though so maybe me driving it a little caused it. So I should be shopping springs instead of shocks then? I probably need them all....
Yeah David, I would agree with Misky. I just put Monroe Reflex shocks on my rig and honestly I cannot tell that there's any lift or difference. In fact, I have the same clearance when I pull into my garage. They're smooth, though!
I would check your front springs. Those are a notorious weak spot (not to dive into the spring swap discussion!).
Brent: Monroe is having a sale right now....is that how you got them so cheap? I think the deal is four for the price of three? I realize you got a different model. Mine were 56.99 retail but after a rebate they will come out to 43 each. ....just curious

Good luck,

I saw that deal somewhere but these are Monroe-matic Plus shocks from Amazon at $24 each and free ship since they total over $25 for 4. I got the last ones they had but they said they will be getting more soon. Make sure it is 2 or 4wd (different).
i've been trying to decide on a shock, stockers have 121k on them now and it doesnt bounce all that much but i know they need to go.
cant bring myself to spend the money on the slectable ranchos...i've had good luck with KYBs in the past but i was also looking at the Monroe. glad your happy with it keep us updated as to how they hold up.

Well, I'm going to rub it in a little. I just sold the lift kit from the Rancho shock deal so my grand total to take 4 Rancho 9000XL 9-way adjustable shocks was NEGATIVE $36!! That's right, I got paid to take those four brand new shocks.
(Now I just need some extra time to put them on. At least I'm in my new house and have my tools, a concrete driveway, and my floor jack now!)
