my 1999 7.3l PSDs tranny is acting really funny. i found out that i have the notorious TQ rattle that the 7.3s are known for. but i hear that its just more of a annoying noise problem than a real problem. but for the past couple days while im driving it goes almost to redline before it shifts especially from 3rd to fourth its never been like this and i sorta have to feather the throttle to get it to shift up. and also say im in third and i hit the gas i kinda have to feather the throttle to get it to down shift....ive never had this problem before so i have no idea what it is but i did notice the TQ is rattling alot more then usual and when i go from drive to reverse it takes a min to get it to kick it and wen it does it jerks pretty badly....if any one has any insight on what it might be whether TQ or valve body please let me know itll be very appreciated.
also if anyone knows a good place to either get the 4r100 rebuilt or just get a new one for cheap that would be great either or
A problem inside the torque converter will not affect shifting. It isn't involved. Now shavings from the torque converter CAN get into the valve body and do all sorts of nasty things.
yea i have fluid its a little overfilled i just havent drained any out that wouldnt do nothing right?.....and so ur saying the valve body my need to be replaced or should i just replace the whole tranny?
I doubt that the valve body needs to be replaced. It can have debris from the torque converter in it causing the valves to hang up. If you put a new one it it will also get debris and stick, if that's the problem. Are there metal shavings in the pan?
Ford problem is they didn't use the proper lock tit on the feed bolts in the trans. The bolts come loose and it causes no shifts, soft shifts, or loose of forward gear. Ive posted pictures before and i know another member did a thread on it with a writeup and more pictures then i posted. I will try to find it for you but this search engine is horrible on this site and i can never find what i want
