Tranny temp gauge recommendations?
2001 F350 with 5.4l and 4r100 transmission plow truck that is new to me-
transmission rebuilt about 500 miles before I bought it, but reverse problems when I picked it up. All forward gears fine, but complete loss of reverse erratically.
Local shop looked at it and found the valves sticking. Tried to replace the stock aluminum valves with steel units but 3 out of 4 refused to come out. Valve body replaced, steel valves in and all is now working well.
Shifts better too.

Point is this- I want to keep an eye on the transmission temp now, and keep the thing healthy, so I would like to get a temperature gauge on the thing.
This is not a show truck, so "fancy" is not needed.
I'd like to find something as cheap as possible without getting junk.
I figure I could spend hours and hours searching online vendors and prices, or I could ask folks who might possibly have been there before me...
So the short SHORT form of the question:
Suggestions for transmission temp gauge for a 4r100 that is decent but won't break the bank?

I got a ScanGauge II which will show MUCH more than just tranny temps and it will scan codes too. It can be had for about $150 and just plugs into the OBD port.
A ScanGauge will read engine coolant temp, cylinder head temp, fuel economy, transmission temp, manifold pressure, and LOTS more. It can also scan for trouble codes and clear them out. A MUCH better investment than a single-use gauge.
I did check a bit and the cheapest plain gauge/housing I came up with was about $65 shipped, needs wires run to the tranny and just reads that temp.
"Breaking the bank" is usually relative, and very often spending a bit more up front is cheaper in the long run.
This would be one of those times.
Thanks you both.
