tranny shifting late?

tranny shifting late?
Anyone know why my tranny is shifting late? It seems to me the engine revs up higher then normal and then finally shifts. When I get to around 50 when it should shift into OD and torque converter lockup, it doesn't until I punch the pedel a little and then it shifts? I thought the trans was electronicaly controlled? so why would it do this?
