Powerstroke starting issues

I have a 97 5 speed power stroke. I bought it a few months ago and the guy said it had new glow plugs. Anyways at random ill start it up than it'll just die after a few seconds. Now i had it stared for about 3 minutes and it just died. Now just cranks over won't start. Any suggestions ?

Start by replacing your CPS (Crank Position Sensor). Do NOT get an aftermarket (Aka big box store). Get it from Ford or International. The parts store ones do not last very long (6 months). I've read it here and experienced it for myself.

My CPS went out last winter at random. I couldn't start the truck most of the winter. I hadn't been driving it much. I figured it was bad Glow Plugs or GPR. When it finally warmed up, I changed the CPS and voilla!! It started right up.

Does the "wait to start" light still work?
Does the "tachometer" move when cranking?

Since it ran for 3 minutes before dieing check the fuel bowl and see if it is full or empty.

I did replace the CPs with one from O'Reilly. But I'll get one from ford. My brother is using the truck right now and he called me with the problem. So I'll have to ask him

It isn't uncommon for them to be bad out of the box. My experience is typically that the big box store ones just don't last as long.

Well I've had it on there for about 3 weeks. Maybe even more and it seemed to be doing fine. But now it's dying. Or just cranking >
