Reps once made are difficult to change. I've lurked longer than I've been a member, and IMO the tone of your posts has mellowed over time (you're enjoying the benefits of getting older, Joe) but you are still on the mods radar. Especially in the last year or two I think your contributions have been exceptional. Thanks for giving.

I am absolutely a free speech proponent, but let's remember we are using their service. They get to make the rules, and that is proper. Equal enforcement is desirable but never achieved because people are fallible. So if the hammer falls on you one day, inequitably, I'd say the wiser course is acquiescence... and out flank 'em!

IMO one of the reasons i think people in general have a problem with your posting "style" (weather it be rude or blunt) is because i know some other diesel forums tend to have alot of similar posters and one of the main things i love about FTE is the fact that the people here (specially in the 7.3 forum) are some of the nicest most patient people I have seen on any forum.

With that said i know there are a few people that hold grudges and thats going to happen but i also know that I work and pay attention to how i post in order to sound welcoming and nice. There is no rule saying that one has to post in this manner but i think it is something that makes FTE a better forum where people won't be judged for their choices and or questions they ask.

Just my .02c

P.S I personally don't hold grudges in life but specially dont hold them online

I appreciate Joe's input. Admittedly earlier when I saw he replied to my water pump failure thread I said "Oh oh.. here it comes." out loud and my friend asked why so I had to explain Joe to him

I can appreciate Joe's blunt way because he never tells you anything that is wrong. Mostly "I told you so"s and "Dont be so ignorant"s, which everyone needs now and then. Joe's got enough experience, what with 1,000,000+ 7.3 miles logged to be that way. The man knows his stuff. That's good enough for me.

He may be kind of abrasive, but he's helpful too.

Joe -

You're as blunt as 10lb hammer. Your wording in posts I remember reading came across (to me) as an arrogant pr*** sometimes. Things that stick out were posts like "Have you run turbo ABC? I have. Have you run injector 123? I have. What have you done that would lead you to knowing anything..." Now, that's not exact wording, so it's not a quote. It just seemed like a crap way to answer a question. And maybe I read in to it, that's possible. I haven't been very active on any truck forum for a few years now, but that's what I remember and while that's historical info, it's the past and what we've seen that affects how we see or expect to see things. Times change, and so do people.

No matter the tone, your posts always had solid experience backing them up. No denying that. And I thank you for it.

I'm sure that your opinion of a particular vendor has caused some of the grief. I have an opinion of another vendor that (thru PM) I will gladly share with others because I feel the same about them as you do about yours. I just keep mine more private, for whatever reason, but both of our opinions are based upon personal experience; that's how you get opinions, and everybody has them. I didn't get banned for it but did get dinged when I called Ken out publicly for saying one thing and doing another. Ancient history, but then so is what got you banned.

The problem here is that you have knowledge, facts, and experience and are willing to share them and also stand up for them. It may be your "style" that ruffles people, past and present. I think you are a valuable member of any forum that deals with these trucks and engines. You have thrown FAR more money at this than I ever will, and many others as well. Your knowledge and experience is valued, and the fact that you worked to get back to help out more people is commendable.

Forum rules dictate that this will have to be addressed privately, but I commend you for addressing it directly with the community.

I'll PM you my info, just in case you come through Colorado. I'd like to buy you a drink and shake your hand.

Links. Yup... I got links and more are on the way!

Show of hands: Who wants to explain the Hutch mod every time somebody posts about going below 1/4 tank? Who wants to walk somebody down the list on every "Won't start" thread? Who knows where all this information is stashed on the forum... without conducting a search?

Am I a broken record with "last link"? Yup. I'm even thinking of having a macro recorded on my keyboard where I just hit one key and it inserts "You may find the last link in my signature helpful". It beats the heck out of working a solution to 4 no-starts per day. Which brings me to Joe.

If I had to answer every questions he does, on multiple forums and subjects, after spending gobs-o-dough on multiple nuked engines... I'd probably grow quite curt myself. My links address the mundane stuff and are an aid to keep my interest and perspective fresh. I wouldn't mind seeing more links in everybody's signatures to lighten our loads, our hearts, and our needs to conduct searches.

Joe, with respect, being correct 96.375% of the time doen't always mean it's always helpful. Anybody like me will want to know the "why" of a suggestion for the sake of understanding the engine and to prevent the expense of a blown engine. Fatigue has historically prevented you from saying "here's the reasoning behind it" - instead I've seen many on the receiving end of "Because I know what I'm doing and you're a (fill in the blank) for not just taking my word for it". You know the definition and job of "Moderator", and aggressive retorts diminish the friendliness of the forum. This has (unfortunately) put you at odds with the moderators and small details like a link to ISSPRO (which I have no problem with) becomes "a thing".

You have helped me to scrutinize my DP and believe me, it doesn't go unheeded... but I'm handling my DP tuner in my own way (with yours and other members input). You have helped me to provide better feedback to Jody and define my tuning goals.

When IB bought the forum it went from "knowledge forum" to business. IB runs a business out of forums and that is as far as it goes. They are strict on their rules and if you don't follow them they have no problem getting rid of you.

They are out to protect their income, the sponsors.

excuse me?

we didn't make the rules here. we adopted the ones which the community has grown around, and matured with. we absolutely, almost never advocate for any members' removal from our communities.

Joe,

Your posts are always honest and direct, as they should be on this type of forum. this isn't fb, or twit, or any of that nonsensical bs (even though some comes up at times).

Wouldn't worry about it too much. we know, first hand, that simple LINKS can get you into trouble--> fomoco attorneys had no mercy.... it was a real shake down.

Some vendors can do no wrong..... reminds me of what Rob (monsterbaby) went through when he expressed his opinions about BTS. Even Ron (ron's power stroke) got some guff for expressing his opinions over certain things.

Just think of it as hanging with the buds. You have to constantly give each other chit- that's why they're your friends. Roll with the punches, just don't get beat down.

Not even remotely accurate. Not one forum rule was added or amended due the change in ownership. People's perception of the site changed drastically when FTE became part of a larger organization, but the operation of the sites technical forums has not been "meddled" with at all.

Edit: I see Robb already addressed this. I was typing on my phone and my paying job interrupted me.

Joe, there are times that you do come off harsh. It would help some posts to give a rime or reason other than "been there done that". It seems though reading enough of your posts, its evident, you've probably tried it all.

It's seems like the Isspro link is just knit picking to me. Apparently there is a rule against it, but hell, I link to anything and everything!

Seems like their biggest issue is with you is deterring sales from a certain vendor. I can honestly say, you are NOT the reason I didn't choose them for my next set of tunes! Even if they are a forum sponsor, it shouldn't be the only vendor we consider buying from! If their product is truly superior, its reputation will sell itself. I support our vendors, but I also buy from others too!

I concur. Things are way more lax under IB than it was under Ken, who not only vigorously protected Motorhaven as practically the only vendor allowed to be mentioned on the site, but also prohibited linking to other forums like TDS and powerstrokenation. Shoot, people got banned just for mentioning other vendors without even linking to them.

There is way more freedom under IB.

Joe- I always appreciate your help & posting, although sometimes abrasive - Without abrasion sandpaper wouldnt be worth a hoot. You get to the heart of the matter without bs & I like it. Dont know or care about the other tuner stuff as myself & most folks here are gonna make their own decision in the end anyway. Keep on posting !

Joe, I like your direct way of answering questions or stating your opionion. However, sometimes I want to know how you know what you know. Sometimes the one word answers leave me hanging. Share a little of how you know what you do, other than you have 1.5 million miles of experience, which is, by the way, why I take seriously what you say. Your a lot like cleatus12r. You confuse the issue with the facts.
